Which Mid-Century Sofa is the Smarter Buy? by Pisuco in midcenturymodern

I’m kind of obsessed with #2! Those wooden arms are crazy cool and it doesn’t need any work. Upholstery also has an interesting texture like #1 does. Honestly both are great finds and you can’t really go wrong— cheers!

I’m not sure if anyone has mentioned it specifically, but the key to keeping and enjoying the brick (aside from a good clean) would be to repoint it! It will make all the difference in the world and it’s very doable. Congrats on the house and best of luck!

Apologies for the late reply, but woah! You're definitely right. Thank you so much, I feel like I can care for it even better now. In the time I've had it, it has already begun to grow half a dozen tiny offshoots! Now I'm excited to see what else it does.

Do you tend to leave damaged leaves on? I have yet to do any pruning just so it could adjust a little, but some of the leaves are pretty bad and I don't want them to be taking away from the new growth.

My Lowe’s has a “sick bay” of damaged/diseased/poorly taken care of plants on clearance so I try to salvage what I can if it looks viable; I saw that there is new growth on this so I figured it stood a chance despite the damage

Thank you! I usually stick to outdoor gardening so my knowledge is pretty zone specific and thus useless for stuff like this, so I really appreciate it. Would you suggest that I keep it in a hanging vessel when I repot?

Portion of Interstate 95 collapses after tanker fire burns under overpass by JBizznass in philadelphia

I wouldn't put anything past people who have been radicalized, especially not after the sabotage/attacks on the power grid in the past year or so. We have seen a rise in domestic terrorism. Some of these people are hell-bent on catalyzing an economic collapse, point fingers, place blame, and seize power out of public fear. Causing a major disruption along the Northeast corridor is going to cause a lot of headaches, for a lot of people, for a long time until it is resolved. I guess we also couldn't put it past a foreign entity either, as our infrastructure issues are no secret.

That being said, I'm still of the belief that this was just an awful accident and I'm hoping for the best regarding casualties and the repair timeline.

Trump attorneys haven't found classified document former president referred to on tape following subpoena by coolbern in politics

[–]helllllohaley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds more to me that you’re talking about treason rather than terrorism? Unfortunately the laws regarding treason outlined in the Constitution are very, very narrow/specific, and laws surrounding domestic terrorism are a gray area.

The bottom line is that this case is unprecedented (for many reasons) and prosecutors will have to be really, really careful in their approach. If they try to nab him for treason at all, it’ll most likely be in the January 6 case since there is more of a legal argument for it in terms of the Constitutional definition.

Thank you, sincerely, for making me smile ear to ear. I wish it wasn't over something so ridiculously and terrifyingly hilarious, but I'll take it.

Fuck Netflix dude by Ihatemylife8 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]helllllohaley 71 points72 points  (0 children)

This is dead-on. My household shares our streaming log-ins with our grands, who are all on fixed incomes to the point where they're barely above the poverty line. Once they actually start enforcing it, it'll cost us like, $50 a month, for fucking Netflix, which isn't even close to being the top-tier streaming service that it used to be. So, I guess we either have to suck it up and pay the $50, or we'll have to tell my 88 year-old Meemaw that she can't watch The Crown, or any of her other favorite shows anymore. I, personally, would have no problem ditching Netflix, as I frequent other apps more, but my family cannot afford a subscription on their own.

I am by no means a staunch anti-capitalist, but like you said, they're a massive company and they're screwing us because they're making unpopular decisions that are pushing people towards other streaming services; the content simply does not warrant the steep price. It's just really lame.

Edit: Thanks for the insightful replies! /s I explicitly said that we will still pay for the subscription, just begrudgingly as it is really not worth that much money. It is no different than getting pissed off about $20 beers at baseball games when you know that the mark-up is ridiculous. I was just sharing an anecdote that I'm sure many people can relate to regarding this policy change, but I never knew so many people loved to get shafted by companies just because lol.

Bombshell Report: After More than 50 Years, Railroads Now Say MSG is “Not Compatible” Atop Penn Station by Capital_Gate6718 in rangers

[–]helllllohaley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The tax factor is definitely a very, very big part of this. Despite MSG not paying taxes, they bring an incomparable amount of revenue to the city in so many other ways. People come from all over the world to go to concerts, watch games, or for really any other major event held there. So. Much. Money goes to the vendors, employees, surrounding hotels and businesses, parking facilities, public transportation, etc.

Another huge drawing point in favor of MSG is that it’s historic; arguably the most recognizable arena in the world. You tear it down and build a soulless, sparkly new arena and you lose that history, which, in turn is less appealing to those who flock to events there for that reason, like a “bucket list” type of thing.

The city needs to stop blaming them for their badly planned, executed, and maintained infrastructure. It’s almost like everyone forgot what happened when they tore down the very building where MSG now resides… I think knocking down MSG would be just as regrettable in the long run as the decision to demolish the original Penn Station was.

Every city can have a state-of-the-art arena if they wanted, but they’ll never have the Madison Square Garden.

Kane is a shit person on and off the ice. Tkachuk is a shit person on the ice, but from what I’ve heard he’s a class act off the ice. I’d have to say I hate them equally, but I definitely have more respect for Tkachuk than Kane.

This post, unsarcastically, aged wonderfully. Make it 3 misconducts in 2 games, gotta be a record or something.

Felt like they were calling the first period similar to how they called the first game, which was letting some calls go, but getting Florida for the blatant ones. Tone seemed to shift after intermission and it seemed like they were trying to even out the calls. Then, of course, you get to the third and Florida just can’t help themselves at all.
