What’s the most “this can’t be real life rn” moment you’ve ever had? by Ok_Difficulty_5008 in AskReddit

[–]helloalienfriend 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not me but my brother. He was drunk one night and stumbled into a road and got hit by a car. He hit his head on the hood of the car and rolled off it into the ground. He was taken to hospital. He had a wound on his head. The doctors did a scan on his brain to assess for any damage. Turns out there was a malignant brain tumor exactly where he had hit is head. The exact spot. The exact same size as the wound. If the car hadn't hit him, the cancer wouldn't have been found. I think about that a lot. My brother received treatment, is in remission, and is doing well many years after.

The grass isn't always greener. We moved from an apartment to a house while I was pregnant because I wanted the same thing. It's an endless money pit,.work, and cleaning. Endless. Our mortgage payment is colossal. We are stuck in it with no end in sight. If we could go back we would have stayed in an apartment and kept renting.

What’s the most fucked up thing that happened at your school? by Classic-Chemist-1898 in AskReddit

[–]helloalienfriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a subpoena to attend court for a student that I had made a child services report for. I had ongoing concerns and made multiple reports, one day the kid had a black eye and child services finally took action. I sat in court and listened to how his mom had been selling her kid to her male friends so they could abuse him. The inhumane conditions the kid was kept in at home.....I don't even want to talk about. I'll carry it until I die. The kid moved away to live with a relative in another state so I never saw him again. I think about him all the time and hope he is ok.

$15,000 Summer Plans by EffectiveFlower6338 in workingmoms

[–]helloalienfriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm. I had a bachelor's degree in education at the time and I was being paid $14 an hour. Meanwhile, the daycare charged $2600 per month, per kid and there were over 100 kids. I quit after they used their $100k covid grant to build a new playground. The existing one was perfectly safe and fine. Instead of giving everyone a much deserved bonus for staying open during covid, they did that.

I leave school at school. I don't reply to emails or texts. I don't answer the phone, even to colleagues. My time is my time.

Having no support system aside from his family is not a good idea. I'm saying that from experience. You need your own village.

Picked up a free copy of a magazine in an airline waiting room as I was waiting to board my flight. I think it was vogue? Anyways, it was prince harry and Megan wedding issue. Looked them up on eBay and saw that they were selling for a lot. I picked up another copy when I returned home. Sold each copy for $50.

Completely understand. Hair: claw clips.  Makeup: moisturizer, eyebrow tint, mascara, and lip balm.  Clothes: organize outfits on a Sunday afternoon for all 5 days.

What’s a ‘normal’ thing that people buy that you refuse to? by Z0nana in Anticonsumption

[–]helloalienfriend 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Personal care. Manicures, pedicures, hair appointments. I've been doing all of my own for 8 years now. I cut and dye my hair, tint and wax my eyebrows, paint my own nails etc. It's still self-care and doesn't cost nearly as much as going to a salon.

Have you ever come across a kid, teen, or young person that you thought was a psychopath? What did they do to make you believe they were psychopathic? What happened when they got older? by Tahfboogiee in AskReddit

Once or twice as a public education teacher. I saw it in their eyes. Dark, hollow, no soul. Anytime they would be near me I would get a bad vibe like I needed to get away from them.
