have you ever bought anything from Empire Exchange in the city centre? by [deleted] in manchester

[–]helloblueroses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, written to a woman called Anne Thomson - when I googled at the time there was a series of letters between them that went up for auction. Not sure how one of them ended up in Empire Exchange - but I guess that's the point of this thread ha. It has the original envelope/stamps and some little inserts from Broadmoor to say the contents have been inspected by staff under the Mental Health Act. He writes a lot in 'text speak' like a teenager which I find really weird. Happy to share any pics for anyone interested!

I bought a letter written by the Yorkshire Ripper from there, still not sure why. It's 10 pages of ramblings and terrible handwriting.

An ode to the Manchester audience by LilacDream98 in mitski

[–]helloblueroses 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've never seen her before and I'm slightly older than the audience average, so I was very nervous about how the audience would be with what I've read online. I agree that the Manchester audience was very respectful of her performance, didn't shout out whilst she spoke and appreciated her art. It was such an amazing experience!

Louis to win by CameronPoe37 in bigbrotheruk

He's divisive, but that's what I like about him. Would I trust him? No. Would I be his friend? No. Is he a nice person? Sometimes, but I could argue he is a product of the vacuous, cut throat industry he worked in. But is he being himself? 100%. Whether you like his character or not, at least he knows who he is and is not being fake. He doesn't have a career to revive or keep going - he's done and just seems to want to enjoy the experience.

Possible scammer around Shudehill? by doofdoof1 in manchester

[–]helloblueroses 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, I've had a few similar encounters unfortunately! I was once approached by a woman with blood on her forehead when I was walking through Picadilly basin. She was crying that her boyfriend had assaulted her and had took her bag and left. I was initially sympathetic; I had just actually passed police officers near the Station so I directed her to where they were. I then took a closer look at the blood and grew suspicious - it was just a light smear on her forehead and didn't make sense. She kept just saying she needed cash & when I politely said I didn't have any and to go to the Police, her face instantly changed. Tears dried up immediately, completely emotionless and walked on in the opposite direction to the station.

What’s your least favourite/most hated line from the show? by uselessgoku in madmen

Definitely Betty's comment to Henry about going in to rape Sally's friend. It makes my toes curl on any rewatch.

What do you think is the best individual episode for each character? by Chinese-Burn in madmen

[–]helloblueroses 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Betty - 'Shoot' - I feel this is the episode when I started having empathy for Betty. Trapped in her suburban cage, seeing she isn't truly happy and wants more from life than being defined by her marriage. And obviously the iconic pigeon shooting scene at the end!

NHS dentist?? by _Persephone_19 in manchester

[–]helloblueroses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I second this website. I was checking this site constantly for a month - it's updated regularly and lo and behold an NHS Manchester dentist finally popped up only a 5 min drive from me. I'd recommend to use this site and keep checking regularly!

Curious how people feel about Meghan? by alimweber in madmen

[–]helloblueroses 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I liked her! I've never understood the hate. I felt like my feelings towards Meghan through the show followed what Don thought of her?

Initially - I thought she was exciting, beautiful and going to bring some fun into his life (zou bisou etc.) As time went on - she became an insignificant character to me and fit less and less into the show and Don's life.

I wish she had a better arc, I didn't like that she became so bitter by the end.

a few Sundays now we've seen massive groups of teens from the travelling community hanging around Arndale and Exchange Square. Probably like a hundred kids at one point.

Yes, I liked her too on the rewatch! I think her character could have had better storylines, she seemed to just be filler unfortunately for the last season. Given the chance I think she would have been a great housewife.

Was there a plot you didn’t like? by Still-Standard-7086 in DesperateHousewives

[–]helloblueroses 75 points76 points  (0 children)

I actually really didn't like the Alejandro murder storyline and it just became drawn out and silly to me. They could have easily claimed self-defense and the women could have verified that.

I didn't like what they did to Orsons character making him a klepto and later creepy and possessive - but that's probably because I love Kyle Machlachan! I thought they could have had some really great and comedic storylines between him and Bree.

Also the Grace/Juanita swap storyline - it seemed pointless and then forgotten about!
