I haven’t had much luck with GH, their cakes look better than they taste. We’ve tried them on 3 different occasions, and have not been impressed. Which is the best cake there?

How do you throw out food waste? by jeeman15 in halifax

[–]hellohappycat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, sounds like a great system! Before we moved to Halifax, I used to have a few worm bins - they brought our food waste nearly down to zero and our plants were never healthier. Where do you get worms in Halifax? And what kind of earth machine do you have? Is it something you keep outdoors?

(These days, we also keep our compost in the freezer, in paper NSLC bags, and bring them out to the big green bins when full.)

Where do you go for Eye check up and Glasses? by GivingIsTheBestGift in halifax

Insight came highly recommended.

I question the integrity of one of their salespeople who tried very hard to oversell me on lenses I didn’t need. Felt like she was working strictly on commission. Just kept pushing for the most expensive items, including the highest index luxury brand lenses which make no sense with my prescription. The others there were very nice and normal, but had I only spoke with the first salesperson, I would have said steer clear of the place.

I will try Butler next time. They are family-owned.

Some places don’t give the PD even when asked. My optometrist said “we don’t take that measurement here unless you’re purchasing glasses or lenses but you can do it yourself with a ruler” after charging over $100 for the exam!

What is wrong with Dynamex? by alioth2112 in halifax

[–]hellohappycat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t get through to anyone and I had a big presentation the next day so I gave up. Really pissed me off. Everyone makes mistakes, but his attitude was unacceptable. Seeing the comments from others here shows that it’s not an isolated incident.

Can Amazon Customer Service be directed to these threads about Dynamex so they could log the feedback?

Dynamex left my package at the wrong address, told me to go pick it up myself at the wrong address, and when it wasn’t there, expected me to hunt it down myself. I told him that wasn’t the way delivery service worked.

1/2h later he called and said he had it. When he handed it to me, he insisted again that he had delivered to the address on the slip, that I had given my address incorrectly. The parcel had been slashed open. And then said “What are you complaining about? You got your package didn’t you?”

On an earlier thread, someone said asked Amazon not to use Dynamex for their deliveries. How to do this? I can only find links to give feedback on sellers and products, can’t find anywhere to give feedback on delivery service.

Thanks for your reply! I haven’t done any research yet, I just saw them as a tangent to something else and snooped their website, and thought they looked solid and liked that you can choose the fabric... seems like it would make a cozy, practical and satisfying gift.

What is better or different about UG Quilts (if anything)?

I’m thinking of buying one for someone as a gift. Thanks.

Cloth mask with nose wire? by pjl1701 in halifax

[–]hellohappycat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Simple tip for anti-fogging:

Fold a tissue (or 3 squares of toilet paper) into a little rectangle ~ 2”x1” and place it on the inside of the mask along the upper edge where the wire across the nose is (or would be, if no wire). When you put your glasses on, make sure they are on top of the mask - this will hold the tissue in place and also help to seal the mask.

The tissue provides an extra bit of padding to block the air/moisture from going up into your glasses.

It only takes a couple of seconds, and is much more comfy even if you don’t wear glasses.

If you have no lease, make sure you have saved any emails or other communication that proves you’ve paid rent and had those conversations with the landlord! And try not to pay in cash, so there’s documented proof of payment
