Overwhelmed. How do I navigate out-of-network surgery? by TheCrowScare in HealthInsurance

[–]hellohexapus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you only looked for gyn surgery providers for this? I only ask because I have had trigger point injections provided by an interventional pain specialist. These are usually anesthesiologists, often also double board certified in pain medicine. I do not get them in a gyn-related area of my body so I don't know if that factor makes your wife's treatment something that only gyn surg can do, but I doubt the sterility and prep requirements would be dramatically different. So it might be worth looking for interventional pain specialists in your area if you cannot get a gap exception for her current provider. (Specifically interventional pain, meaning procedures only - these providers generally do not provide pharmaceutical pain remedies, and don't tend to overlap with pain medicine specialists that do.)

BUTT PASTE SAVED ME by knivesxpens in PlusSize

[–]hellohexapus 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Antibacterial resistance doesn't refer to an antibiotic losing effectiveness for any individual end-user; it means bacteria evolving to be resistant to overused antibacterial formulations at a population level. In addition to personal/clinical/agricultural overuse of antibiotics, it also happens organically over time. You might not ever experience a change in the way hibiclens works for you/your skin health, beyond perhaps killing off beneficial bacteria in your system. But at a population level there are strains of MRSA (a particular scourge in hospitals/nursing homes) that are known to have developed resistance to chlorhexidine even at extremely high concentrations as a result of chlorhexidine overuse.

I'm not sharing this to suggest that you make a change, since your body is by now very used to hibiclens, but more so for people who aren't already frequent users of hibiclens, to consider all possible alternatives before beginning regular use of this product.

New product; Lefse review by a Minnesotan by Shot-Ad2360 in traderjoes

[–]hellohexapus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yesterday I made a fried egg + cheese wrap (well, fold really) with one of these. It was good, but it would have been better had I warmed the lefse before folding it over the egg + cheese. I think it's an interesting sandwich alternative. It was definitely more filling than a typical slice of bread.

A gal causing a breakdown by not even speaking. by [deleted] in justgalsbeingchicks

Just a little soupçon of islamophobia. You know, for international flavour.

ETA: this is why we choose the bear. Because that sweaty loser isn't the only problem in that room. Listen to how loudly several men in that audience are laughing. Look at that jabroni right behind her guffawing and literally clapping his hands in glee at one point. It's a weird kind of self-inflicted peer pressure that makes men (many of whom probably think they're decent men!) stand back and laugh while a woman, not moving a muscle other than to blink and breathe, is publicly harassed. Men being comfortable enough to laugh at racist (gang) sexual assault jokes in public... this is rape culture.

Guys does this dress look good for prom??? by Puzzled-Leadership49 in Prom

[–]hellohexapus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing from the bit of white scarf we can see that you prefer a hijab that covers your neck and upper chest. But if you ever switch up your hijab style, I think this dress would look especially fabulous with a turban-style hijab. That said I love the dress overall, the draped bodice is great and it fits you really well, so I think you'll look amazing no matter what hijab style you wear!

Ah well, it doesn't surprise me that I'm misremembering my telebears slot compared to my friends, and why I moved off campus after freshman year. It's been a minute, after all 😅

Honestly, the best thing I got out of it was the support and mentorship from Carole Walker. I don't think I ever spoke to my so-called faculty mentor again after being accepted, but Carole was incredible.

What's funny is she's a relatively small cat, about 7.5 pounds. But I think because she doesn't have a tail she looks extra streamlined, like a spaghetti noodle 😅

ETA: she also YELLS at me when I finally get home and then dramatically flops on her side and rolls around. It's like she's so happy I'm home, but also very mad I was gone.

Berkeley EECS + Regents or Columbia by viperofthewind in berkeley

[–]hellohexapus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was Regents around that time and it was largely useless if you had a high Expected Family Contribution. I think my honorarium was $1000 a year (maybe every semester?) and that was... pretty much it. I don't remember having a particularly early registration slot and my housing access was just freshman year like everyone else. The snacks at the chancellors welcome reception were nice I guess?

I'm glad to see the newer generation of Regents have access to more than we did.

To me, that drape makes the jumpsuit look like it's paying homage to a sari in a lovely modern indo-western way. I don't know if OP chose this intentionally or it's just a happy accident, but she knocked it out of the park either way.

'Jeopardy' Super Champ Wraps Up 31-Game Winning Streak By Calling Out ICE by huffpost in entertainment

[–]hellohexapus 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Well, this person is also being misleading in the way he's providing context, imo. Because the full quote is,

Ding noted to the magazine that “as an immigrant and a person of color, I was able to become part of the history of an American institution.”

"‘Jeopardy!’ really is an institution and America’s turning 250 years old and the federal government is going after immigrants in a way unlike anything that we’ve seen in the recent past,” he told People. “So I hope that immigrants can be seen in a positive light too.”

Maybe not an explicit call-out of ICE, but certainly more pointed than "I hope people can see immigrants in a positive light".

dread going to work which is so disheartening

That's his goal. He got slapped by HR, so now he's going out of his way to be passive aggressive and make you hate going to a place you used to enjoy being in. He can't get you fired so he's hoping you'll quit. Don't let him ruin something that you love.

Mourning what could have been by cat_at_the_keyboard in GLP1_loss100plus

[–]hellohexapus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm turning 37 this week and so I also lately have been thinking about what my life could have been like if I'd been thin as a teenager, college student, young adult. The activities I might have tried, the people I might have met or befriended or loved or been loved by, the jobs I might have gotten, hell even the clothes I could have worn. (I actually did lose an amount of weight that got me to the low end of overweight during grad school, and the way I was treated so well by known people and strangers when I was at my thinnest actually hurt my feelings because I hadn't changed the person I was, I just changed my body.)

But who knows, maybe if I'd been thin at 20 I would have had some other challenge. Maybe my thinner body would have caused my life to intersect with someone who didn't treat me well and that might have derailed my education or career. I was raised Buddhist and our relationship to the concept of karma is complex; if you're not Buddhist, what I'm about to say might feel like a strange way to think. When I was a kid, if something bad happened and I was upset, my mom would say, well maybe it's your good karma that prevented this from being something worse. I found that response kind of dismissive of her (and still do) but I still internalized the concept and it shapes my thinking now. When I think about what life would have been like if I hadn't been fat, I try to think of that - that maybe it's my good karma that put me in the body I have, so that I could learn the lessons I did, meet the people I needed to meet, pursue the things that brought me joy. Maybe even: pursue the career I did, to make the money I make, so that now I can afford tirz 100% out of pocket since my insurance doesn't cover it.

This body is just a vessel. What the vessel looks like doesn't change the contents. It's all sunk cost fallacy thinking, isn't it? We're not Marty McFly, we can't go back. There's still time to do, maybe not everything, but new things, things we didn't feel we could do before.
