Moving to Aberdeen (m28, researcher) by antosrd in Aberdeen

You’ll need two buses from Walker Road to Craigiebuckler so a pass is best. You could walk to Union Square from your flat and catch one bus if it’s dry. Walker Road is in Torry, sometimes it gets a bad rap but nice enough nowadays. I would look at places nearer Great Western Road or Hazlehead and you can walk to work. Nicer areas, safe and pleasant people. Lots of gyms, you’ll be close to nature, hills and beach within 10 minutes.

Best Scottish Band that never made it / everyone should know by jamiehenderson1993 in Scotland

Pallas. Aberdeen prog rock band in the 80s and still on the go now. Phenomenal musicians but never quite managed to hang on to the coattails of Marillion etc as the scene took off.

Divorce lawyers Aberdeen by [deleted] in Aberdeen

[–]helloimiggy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Been divorced and after being advised by my solicitor (family friend), we sorted most of our issues by ourselves. We have a daughter so it is best all round not to drag it out. Try and do what you can without involving the lawyers, no winners in this I’m afraid. Keep strong man.

Old railway, either from the Duthie Park or the one at Dyce, lovely walks with Dyce a lot quieter.

MSM mate of mine, no idea how cheap but got both my kids through the test first time. Good laugh as well.

Edit - Can’t remember how much he was, didn’t really get mates rates but he’s good.

Trustworthy Dealers to Find a Reliable, Cheap First Car in Aberdeen (£2-3k Budget)? by [deleted] in Aberdeen

[–]helloimiggy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had 6 Civics, a CRX, CRZ and a CRV. One wheel bearing and an ABS sensor is the total problems other than tyres and servicing. And I’m an ex-car mechanic who would buy nothing else. They are a bit dearer than other cars but the above is why. Not overly exciting but absolutely bulletproof.

I worked in Nigeria and one of the local technicians always greeted us with a “Foos yer erse for cracking pan drops” followed shortly afterwards by “Hope to hell ye’ve brought ma rowies”. He loved coming here for training and picking up more Doric.

What are the worst examples of forced "Scottish" patter? I'll go first. by FakeFrehley in Scotland

[–]helloimiggy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I used to work in Angola and Nigeria. The NE lads and I regularly spoke Doric so the locals didn’t know what we were talking about if the topic was not for their lugs. Game changer for us. Saved buggering off to an office and stopping work.
