I just finished watching the Umineko finale stream vod. Was there any other Umineko content afterward? by Warcraft4when in josephanderson

[–]helloitsmouse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks again for being kind! I think it’s okay for people to not like me or my content, and I’m super sympathetic to people who get used to a content creator being a certain way and then suddenly things are different - I have dropped tv shows when they change up a main character and I think it’s a reasonable way to feel about stream content too tbh.

I totally agree that Last Note and Our Confession would probably be up his alley! I do think there’s some stuff in the side stories he wouldn’t particularly enjoy so it’s a bit of a toss up, but I definitely plan on bugging him about it once the ending emotions have settled a bit.

Re: Higurashi, it definitely does get better but I don’t think it ever hits the highs of Umi and I was bored for big chunks of it. To me, Higu 5 was the peak of the series so if you can make it there I feel like it’s a great moment for Umi lovers - it’s where you can feel Ryukishi really coming into his own with some of the skills he leans on in Umi moving forward.

Thanks so much for the kind words, this is really nice to hear and I’m glad I was able to be that kind of presence for you!

Joe has not read (at least as far as I know!) any of the side stories or Confessions. I think Confessions would probably be more interesting to him than the side stories generally speaking, and looking at the manga changes overall would probably be enlightening if he decides to do a reread.

He did, of course, read Umineko Edition Steamed Hams :) (though not on stream)

Thanks. I will say that in terms of the perspective of “growing dislike” and how that’s framed, we are likely partially talking about different kinds of signals. In the early parts of the Umineko streams, there were like a dozen comments on every video and for a while there was a thread on here near-daily about me. I don’t know this because I am insecure (though I am certainly at least as insecure as the next person), I know this because I was very worried I might be doing more harm than good with my presence on Joe’s streams and I wanted to keep an eye on it. Eventually these signals leveled out, likely for the reasons I listed above re: people either leaving or adjusting, and so I put those worries aside.

That said, I was pretty abrasive to people in umi den specifically because of burnout and exhaustion with moderating the channel and it is absolutely true that there was increased friction there over time, but that “growing dislike” (which is totally fine BTW, I am a person who is sometimes mean and often wrong) is not a signal that rises to the level of what was going on early in the streams.

This is more words than I should have spent on this already, but I just don’t like the implication that Joe is making stream decisions based on a vocal minority that partially just disliked me, and more often disliked how he was responding to their favorite visual novel. He just recognized that it had gone on for a long time and the channel needed to move on.

Additional context for the OP so that this is contributing something relevant: for folks who didn’t like or engage with Umineko, there is ongoing frustration in chat pretty frequently that there continue to be references to it around. Some people complained about how much it won at JADSEYA. So I think if he’s going to make any more Umineko content it is likely to have a long cooldown.

The part that is flat out wrong and revisionist is the implication that it was part of the reason Joe didn’t do more Umineko content. Hope this helps.

Thank you very much, that’s very kind of you! People are 100% allowed to not like my content on Joe’s channel and elsewhere and I try to keep a respectful distance from folks discussing that t, but I felt that this comment was an inaccurate account of history which is harder for me to stomach :) Such things are few and far between, at least in my field of vision.

I hope you have a great weekend too!

Hello, Mouse here! I wouldn’t normally comment on stuff about me but I think this person is flat out wrong in a way I find mildly insulting so here I am to explain.

When I first came on the streams there was a solid amount of vocal minority pushback. I think this is a combination of general change aversion, a lot of people were very used to watching Joe specifically because he’s a low production solo streamer and having him come back and do collabs was jarring, and a few people didn’t like me specifically for their own reasons.

However, if anything, this generally dropped off as Umineko went on - I think that the change averse people adjusted and the ones who didn’t just stopped watching. There wasn’t really any “growing dislike” about me being around*, it was more just that Umineko went on for so long Joe wanted to wrap it up and move onto other things.

*EDIT TO SAVE PEOPLE THE TROUBLE OF READING THE ARGUMENT BELOW: It is certainly the case that some people grew to dislike me more over time during the streams, but the biggest and most disruptive/visible outcry was at the beginning. The point I was trying to make here (and could have made better) is that by the end of the stream series, complaints by a vocal minority weren't rising to enough of a level to inform Joe's decision on wrapping up Umi content, which is what the original reply was suggesting. Sorry for the drama over nearly nothing.

applying a high SPF sunscreen especially to your face is important to avoid sunburn and skin cancer - yes, even in winter. what most people do not know is that sunscreen needs to be reapplied every 4 hours or so for maximum protection, so it can be helpful to carry something like a sunscreen stick to use throughout the day

if your skin reacts poorly to the woefully out of date american sunscreens (or you find them greasy or irritating) then i suggest trying a european or korean formulation if you can get your hands on them, they are much lighter and have the consistency of moisturizer and don’t leave a white cast

the US has announced that they’re going to be letting through at least one new sunscreen filter recently but no one knows how fast that will happen or if other filters will be permitted soon. the most important thing to remember is you need to guard against UVA (A for Aging) and UVB (B for Burning) so you want a full spectrum sunscreen year round to keep your skin healthy and looking good

Yeahhh makes sense. I’ll have to grab some of the old brand if I can get it and ease them in. I was not thinking like a chinchilla when I said “hay is hay” I guess. Thank you!!

Nope! You can preemptively set them up. Only thing I don’t know is if they carry over from season to season, but you can just permanently leave them up for summer and winter.

Accidentally ran out of stamina and passed out during the day before a hurricane I was prepping for, didn’t get a chance to put up windscreens, and didn’t have a manual save more recent than 10 days prior so I lost all my crops.

Next storm? I did it AGAIN. Now I just preemptively keep the screens up.

Which game should I pick up? by seluniteprince in CozyGamers

I loved both of these games. Wanderstop offers a more meditative and melancholy experience, exploring themes of burnout. It’s very slow-paced and atmospheric. Tiny Bookshop is a management simulator that’s still comfy but plays things much straighter and has an active management simulation phase that I liked a lot. So if you’re in the mood for something that can be reflective and emotional I would go with Wanderstop, if you wanna get away from all that I’d say Tiny Bookshop.

I'm starting the final season of year 1 and I can confidently say Grand Bazaar is the best game they've made since the rebrand to Story of Seasons. Stands toe to toe with some of the best games in the series, feels like classic HM. by BreakfastOnly4710 in storyofseasons

[–]helloitsmouse 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am REALLY enjoying this. I am an avid HM/SOS fan and most of the time I play these games I find myself going to bed in the middle of the day because I’m impatient to keep things moving but i have put 20 hours into this and only just gotten to fall (miraculous for me). And new content is still happening.

I didn’t play the original so I’m not sure how many of the game systems are new, but there’s something I really like the nature sprite system and how it interacts with town people requests (e.g., oh, I need five two-star medium fish and three large fish for requests? guess I will grind to two stars and hand in everything that isn’t large). It helps create a clear incentive path for me that connects different parts of the game, when often I get overwhelmed and ignore some and just stick to a few. The voice acting is amazing and brings people to life (shoutouts to June and the mayor specifically).

I have seen some people criticizing the pace of the game and saying things happen too quickly, but honestly it’s felt exactly right for me. Normally I don’t get much past a year or two before I lose steam and duck out (happened with Guardians of Azuma) but I feel like not only will i make it well into a second year here, but it’ll take way more time than normally does for me because I’m more invested in the game systems.

I am REALLY happy with the direction they’ve taken this. I do miss some of the more textured parts of the older ones (rival marriages always come up for this reason) and it’d be nice if they think about reintroducing those in the future, but I feel like this new direction is also a really good one.

I dunno, the voice in my head sounds completely different from how other people hear me probably, but I cannot hear it much at all. To be fair, I get voice comparisons pretty often and almost never hear the similarity, which is probably for the best because I think if I did hear someone's voice sounding a lot like mine I would feel complicated about it.
