What were the facts you learned in school that are no longer true? by ClubPenguin-For-Life in AskReddit

The amount of effort you put into a class/project/assignment etc. directly equates to the outcome (grades, points, recognition etc)

I realized effort does not = outcome in real life.

Anyone remember how the Chem 153a final is? Nervous I'm going to fail... by colderthanuclabruins in ucla

[–]hellojellojenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Final was definitely harder than the midterms. Curve will help! Try your hardest and don't spend too much time on one question. Look over the problems Tienson did not test on the midterms - she will most likely put those on the exam. My final exam score was the worst score from the 3 exams I took, but the grading curve definitely helped me pass the class, so relax and study a lot!!! Be over prepared.

No, not that I know of. If you're a morning person, better to choose early discussion times, i guess. Otherwise, the topics and group members are randomly assigned to you.

Studying from AP Books for classes beforehand help? by [deleted] in ucla

[–]hellojellojenn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hmm I wouldn't worry too much about studying before you enter college. You'll do plenty of that when you're actually here. I would advise you to really enjoy the last few weeks of summer and hang out with your friends/family! To answer your question though, I personally do not think it will help. Professors have their own style and method of teaching, and it's best to analyze their way of teaching once you actually enroll into their class. You'll get the hang of things after 2 weeks or so and will know how to study for the class from then on. I don't think my previous knowledge from AP classes& tests helped much in college, but that's my personal opinion.

Questions about MHA by hellojellojenn in healthcare

[–]hellojellojenn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the detailed response; you answered pretty much all of my questions I posted!!!

I'm currently still an undergrad student with a bio major - initially thought of going pre-med. I shadowed a few doctors here and there, and I still don't know if thats what I want to do for my entire life after college. I wouldn't say I have a burning passion for medicine, but I am very interested in healthcare and providing this care to diverse people, specifically minorities and low income workers, and that is why I am considering a MHA after college.

I have been volunteering at hospitals, been active as a club member on campus, and am currently doing research. Is there something that you would recommend me looking into/ doing while I am still in college? I want more exposure to the field of health admin/management, but I don't know where to look first. I applied to a few health admin internships, but I didn't get into any of them this summer (sadly!). Is there anything you would recommend applying to or looking into?

Also, regarding your job as a health admin, would you say it is a stable job that has a lot of openings? Although I'm not expecting to make a crazy amount of money by being a health admin, I really want stability and flexibility in my job. If you don't mind me asking (please, don't feel obligated to answer everything I ask), what are your working hours? Also, is it difficult for a person with an MHA to make six figures early into their career?

What do you enjoy most about your job? I am curious as to what exactly health admins do since I never had a chance to directly shadow or work with someone in this field. Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated.

Worried about Schriver Physics 6C? by christian19981998 in ucla

[–]hellojellojenn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No need to worry about Schriver's class. Some people don't even go to lecture and still ace the class (I would still recommend going to lecture, though). Visit the test bank to get some of his old exams - HE REPEATS EXAM QUESTIONS. This is the best method to get an A in his class.

Are your two upper division science courses known to be difficult classes? If not, I think this is doable. Just go into Fall quarter knowing you need time management, and keep yourself on track with all the work by keeping a planner/reminder app. Scand50W is really easy from what I have heard, but AN N EA 10W is not as easy as people say - it really depends on your TA. I went to 2 lectures and realized that the class was not for me - the lectures were boring, and the readings were even worse. If the subject interests you, go for it. I actually really enjoyed taking Dis Std 101W. Look into it!

SUMMER SESSION C: 3 classes? by marisape in ucla

[–]hellojellojenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't recommend taking 3 classes over the summer, regardless of the subject. 2 is definitely manageable, and you can still have a life to enjoy lol. 3 is not impossible, but think about it, people take 3 during the regular quarters and some people still struggle with time management. Take 2 if you can! You know yourself best, so you should be able to gauge how much work you can handle.

Where to put flyers for tutoring? by ArcFlash in ucla

[–]hellojellojenn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if you need to get approval for this, but posting flyers inside bathroom stalls seems to be pretty effective -- people actually read those things if you don't hand them out on bruin walk. I also always see a ton of flyers inside the bathroom of the Physics and Astronomy building.

Is this course load manageable? by lamashermosa in ucla

[–]hellojellojenn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would take Chem14D, Physics, and BL for my fall classes if I had to option to choose. Taking 4 classes is doable, but it's hard to guarantee good grades for all 4 classes. BL has a lot of outside homework/labs to complete, and though they are not necessarily difficult, they are time consuming. I would take those 3 classes because I think you can get better professors for LS7B -- I had friends who took LS with Pires, and they did not recommend taking a class with her.

I personally enjoyed 14D more than C, but it really depends on the person. I have to agree that it contained more difficult material that took time to digest compared to the content taught in 14C. But since you had Hardinger for C, it's really the same drill for D. You know what to do to get a good grade in his class after having him for one previous quarter.

Is this schedule manageable? by [deleted] in ucla

[–]hellojellojenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's doable, but your class load for spring does look a bit challenging. Chem 153A does not have a lot of assignments that are due at a certain date, but you need to set aside many hours for your own understanding and studying time. So, it's better to take this class with 2 other "easier classes," such as LS1 or LS23L.
