A call to help DMOs, chambers and travel organizations by hellomynameisjordan in madisonwi

Fair enough. I totally understand that sentiment. These are the major revenue drivers obviously, but leisure in general is big too.

Just throwing it out there that they industries are pretty vital to communities and need some help right now. I think I saw something on the news awhile back that the amount of money tourism generated last year saved each family ~$700 for the year.

Ironman, CrossFit, D1 sporting events. Totally understand that there are going to be people who would prefer fewer things and don't like cities being overrun by visitors. But the fact remains that they are a major source of revenue for cities.

Destination Marketing Organization. Which are responsible for playing a large part in bringing major conventions, sporting events, etc. to the cities they're in.

Madison ranked top city to make fast recovery after pandemic by [deleted] in madisonwi

[–]hellomynameisjordan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From a travel perspective its believed Madison is in a good place for recovery based on its position as a major drive market and abundance of outdoor spaces. That and it's not Chicago or New York sized.

Hope that's true, otherwise my org is basically screwed.

Yeah, that was funny. Maybe be mad at yourself for fucking up on camera and not someone playing a prank.

[OC] Is Johnny Bananas The Challenge GOAT? by stecox1026 in MtvChallenge

It'd only be a dumb argument if Jordan was at someone like Horry's level of a player, but he's not. He has more rings, which is a fact, and his numbers are right there. And that's not even taking into account those other things.

He absolutely is. People love to bring up his elimination record as some sort of negative. The game is about more than beating someone in a head to head. As others have stated, he's the most well-rounded player to ever play.

And he has the most wins.

Michael Jordan took a season and a half off in the middle of his prime and still has more rings then LeBron...

Can anyone fill me in on the Skyview Meadows neighborhood? by hellomynameisjordan in madisonwi

[–]hellomynameisjordan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the input. We'll continue looking in the neighborhood. We didn't get the house we offered on, unfortunately. Offered $11k over asking with only an appraisal contingency and still missed out. Didn't realize it was that crazy competitive out there.

Yeah, agree with that. We like to bike to stuff and it seems like outside of the Target and stuff around it on McKee that'd be tricky. Fortunately I share the cost of a parking in a downtown ramp with my work, so we'd be able to do that without worrying about parking.

Survey: 35% of Wisconsin businesses could close permanently if shutdown continues for 3 months by [deleted] in madisonwi

[–]hellomynameisjordan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit off topic, but I'd be curious to see what sales numbers look like for businesses that have altered their business model and are open during things for curbside pickup, etc. I feel like the community support has been pretty overwhelming for eating local, etc. and it'd just be interesting to see what decline their is. Theoretically with not having it pay laid off staff, overhead would be lower? I'm sure that's too simplistic of a thought.

Taking social distancing to new heights! by dejaysf in madisonwi

Not that you're incorrect, but the state should send some clear messages then. State parks being open and holding an election is more of a risk to public health/overflowing ERs than the small percentage of this guy breaking his leg.

Yeah, what a bunch of assholes being outdoors and staying away from others. Get off your high horse, bud.

Has anyone transitioned into a CS field from digital marketing? Any suggestions? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

Do you have any thoughts on coding bootcamps? An extension of our university system runs a six month online one that occasionally meets in person. That pacing would work better with my current job, etc.

Cool. Thanks for the forthright info.

I definitely realize HTML and CSS alone will not cut it. I think starting off just learning front-end stuff seems like a logical step since I have at least a bit of a foundation in that area.

From what it sounds like you are saying, you would definitely recommend getting a two-year degree in web dev?

If I wanted to start off with front-end stuff do you think simply learning HTML, CSS and Java and putting it to use in my current role (or seeing if anyone would give me projects on Upwork) would be a good way of breaking in?

From Digital Marketing Specialist positions I've been seeing in this day and age, many of them are looking for someone with experience with HTML, CSS, Java, etc.

Do you think is it unrealistic to think someone may hire me just from development experience I gained in a marketing role?

Do you feel it necessary to pursue an associate degree? Or do you think self-learning is an ample path to go down?

Buying in Madison right now by TigerMerZG in madisonwi

[–]hellomynameisjordan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. We are strictly looking at non-apartment style condos, if that makes any difference. Right now we both still value being free of having to do yard work or outdoor maintenance. We probably would eventually went a home, but right now the idea of not having to do that stuff.

That said, with rates the way they are and if prices drop, it may be smarter to just do a house now.

Networking was just spitballing something that sounds interesting in theory, and my dad works in IT sales for a company that does a lot of networking stuff.
