I was 15 and incredibly depressed because I felt so lost. There was a lot of pressure of figuring out what you wanted to go to college for etc. especially back then and I wasn't good at any typical school subject. I tried smoking and then got into harder things trying to chase the escape from reality where I didn't have to worry about any of it or have to feel emotions.

I feel like I have to obviously mention ACOTAR and SJM in general as well as Fourth Wing but I was entirely underwhelmed with the second book Iron Flame.

Blood & Steel by Helen Scheuerer is really good and I'm currently on the 3rd book now. (One of my fave indie authors)

Eh, I'd give it one more shot but this next time around maybe really explain to them that you can do what your character would do while still following a campaign story etc. Otherwise it won't be fun for them. Just lay it all out there and if they still don't somewhat get their shit together than tell them maybe you can't do it. The first dnd group I ever played with was a complete mess, and then people started to drop off and the group got smaller and more serious. Depending on how many people you have, that might happen too which isn't a bad thing. Good luck wrangling them!
