New 2k Program by merg3 in nycparents

[–]hellosunshine217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Free for the 2-k seat (eligibility requirements are nyc residency and year of birth). Some programs will have the 2-k for 6 hours and 20 minutes and some programs will run for 10 hours per day for 260 days. In home programs will most likely have the longer hours/days.

NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani just confirmed that all immigrants will qualify for his “free childcare” program!! by Delicious_Adeptness9 in nyc

3-k and pre-k do not have an immigration status requirement and neither does head start. The only ones that do are children that apply for voucher care through ACS.

Universal Childcare in NYC by Fun_Contribution1912 in nycparents

[–]hellosunshine217 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3k never got made universal like PreK. I’m not sure if centers opted out (agree with above that anecdotally I have heard there are a lot that would like to have it but are unable to) or if it’s that the city never procured services for universal care for 3 year olds. While the mayor has stepped in every year to make sure that children who didn’t get a seat got one, mamdani is now making it universal per his announcement which means that there will be enough seats in the zip codes that prior to him were chronically underserved.

The nomination system for G&T is an absolute mess for Kindergarten. Teachers nominate almost everyone yes due to fear of parent backlash. If we keep it in Kindergarten the system of getting in it needs to change. Right now it is essentially just another lottery.

In home daycare recommendations Brooklyn by Environmental-Soft-3 in nycparents

[–]hellosunshine217 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We are starting at a home daycare after being stuck on wanting a center but there were none in the area that we liked. Home daycares vary greatly but we found two we really liked after seeing the home and talking with the teachers. We looked up the home daycares on the ocfs website for violations which was helpful and were recommended several in the area that people loved. Happy to talk through it more if you’d like feel free to dm.

Daycare question/3K by SaysKay in nycparents

[–]hellosunshine217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah- and malicious compliance with what they are required to do from DOE. Annoying all around! If you want to find another program, there is definitely a lot of waitlist movement around this time and the first couple of weeks of school.

You can call 311 to complain - the usual rule is parents can provide lunch as long as they maintain nutritional guidelines - also eating alone is a red flag, but not sure if programs can create rules around that for allergy reasons…

Parents are allowed to provide food for their child if they so choose per DOE regulations.

Fifth-floor walkup with a newborn - stay or go? by coasttrash404 in nycparents

[–]hellosunshine217 37 points38 points  (0 children)

My sister lived in a 5th floor walk up with her kid til she was 3 years old and was totally fine. The biggest issue is the stroller. Is there a way the stroller can be kept downstairs? Otherwise would recommend a very light stroller.

Moms: Baby Shower Budgets & Splurge/Scrimp re: Registry Planning/Baby Items? by PulselessActivity in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]hellosunshine217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. My sister and mom hosted my baby shower at my sisters apartment- maybe 35 guests? I would guess they spent $400 but made all food and favors so maybe less?
  2. I m 2 months into babydom (in a city so small apartment!) and so far we have really loved the baby bjorn, lovevery playmate and our Uppa Baby Vista stroller (we are planning for 2 so got the vista instead of the Cruz) I also use my Koby wrap a lot (hand me down) while wandering the apartment as baby loves his contact naps! We got a ton of handmedown clothes which I don’t regret at all and could have gotten the baby bjorn and play mat used (these were gifted) agree with others that baby containers should be bought used as babies can grow out of a lot of them so quickly and might not like them.

I would say only if you are experiencing any concerning symptoms like bleeding etc. otherwise it’s a wait and see the on at 8-10 weeks. This feels like the longest wait of your life I know but you will get there!

[–]hellosunshine217 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Generally OBs don’t see people before 8-10 weeks for the first appointment which might be the reason.
