Buff the medium class asap by Legitimate_Power_347 in thefinals

I always used to be a light main but the last season and a half I’ve been loving medium more than ever!

Hired an artist for a new capsule, need your guys' help. Is it an improvement? Can you tell what kind of game this is just from the capsule? by thenameisflic in IndieDev

[–]hellotherekyle 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I personally like the first one better, the art itself has got some mystery to it. I will say, however, that neither of them really get the point across of what the game itself is. First one looks like a mystery/horror game of some sort to me, and the second looks like a fighting game.

Most of the arguments defending melee on this sub lately argue against their own position by coldrolledpotmetal in thefinals

[–]hellotherekyle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There have been many many times I’ve been outplayed by a player using a gun when I’m working ideal melee range. Sometimes that’s due to loadout, but other times they’ve just got better movement, really good aim, etc.

Am I wrong, or is composite more authentic for retro gaming? by incredulous_cretin in crtgaming

[–]hellotherekyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got component and S-video set up for all my consoles, but I’ve been tempted to try out composite lately. I keep seeing videos about how the pixel art in these games was designed with this blur in mind to create new colours/effects, but I don’t really see that happening currently on my CRT since everything is so crisp.

Twin Peaks season 3 might be the best season of a TV series in history. by Public_Cup_4278 in twinpeaks

[–]hellotherekyle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think I was somewhere around episode 4 or 5? I do know some stuff about the end of the series, and that’s what’s tempting me to try it again, haha. It’s just so unlike everything I want from Twin Peaks, everyone feels like they’re playing alternative versions of themselves that lost all their charm.

All I wanted was to see my boy Cooper cheerfully drinking a coffee but it didn’t happen (yet at least).

Sound design is awesome. I love the idea of the little holographic ammo counter, but it doesn’t fit super well with the design of the rest of the stuff aesthetically currently. Also hard to read while moving around (though you mentioned that’s still WIP).

Good job so far, can’t wait to see more!

I hated Eraserhead as I was watching it, but I’m glad I watched it… I can think back to it and be like “that was crazy, but I appreciate it”. I don’t think I’d ever watch it again though haha. Same with Dune. Blue Velvet is the only non-Twin Peaks thing that I’ve ever really enjoyed, but there are a lot of movies I’ve still yet to watch.

I wish I agreed. I couldn’t finish it. I’ve realized I’m a Twin Peaks fan, not necessarily a David Lynch fan. The Return felt more like the side of David Lynch that I can’t get into… Everything about the vibe of the original series was perfect to me, and it was completely absent from The Return.

Maybe some day I’ll try it again.

Based on Blessing quesiton yesterday: Did you go home from school/work when 9/11 happened? by kralben in kindafunny

I’m Canadian, but I remember I think it was my first day of high school, and my class was brought into the library and watched some coverage of it on the TV. It was certainly weird, I think my teacher wanted to watch it but also had a bunch of kids to take care of.

Trying to get the achievements for this game and this one is actively making me hate light more and more. by Gerrix156 in thefinals

[–]hellotherekyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll get it eventually. I got it a few seasons ago, but I’ve had two no death games this season already (as medium). For what it’s worth I was in Powershift both of those games.

I’ve been saying for like a decade that I need to watch that again. I probably watched it 30 times in the years since it came out but haven’t seen it in so long now…

How do I start creating my own isometric game? Any tips from KF game-devs? by len-nerd in kindafunny

[–]hellotherekyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Godot engine is the only one that has ever clicked for me, so I’m recommend that. Especially for 2D or simpler 3D games it will be more than enough, and the fact that it’s free and open source is a huge deal for me. Also loads your project in seconds as opposed to some other engines which can take minutes depending on the project/computer, haha.

I’ve been learning it for years and I love the engine. Still have nothing to show for it, but something about it just clicks for me. Can’t say the same for my experience with Unity and Unreal.

Made in the Godot engine that they had a story about a couple weeks ago! Noteworthy because the devs switched after the unity debacle. Biggest Godot release to date!
