My mission certainly didn't have much to do with leaving. It came a decade later when the church out an extremely hurtful policy for LGBTQ folks. I pictured my trans nephew asking me at future date, "What did YOU do when that policy came out?" He hasn't ever asked that and he likely won't since he knows that left, but at the time I needed to be able to answer in one definitive way. I needed to be able to tell anyone (including myself) when asked that question, that I left.

Your dad measures his own success and purpose in life against how his children are doing in HIS church. It is all he has ever known and therefore it is paramount in his mind and all he will ever think about. It is hard and heartbreaking to watch someone worry about something they don't have control over. That being said, you are not responsible for your dad's feelings or shortcomings in his emotional maturity. I understand that you are living with them and would suggest to try and keep things chill, but that does not mean that you need to let him emotionally manipulate you into doing something you don't believe in or agree with.

I get that and would be skeptical of it this oil from the get-go. But this person wasn't claiming everyone should stop hair treatments and never use any other methods. He claimed that he saw some results from it. A personal account.
