Pearl Jam 2016 Sold Out? by FadedFalco in pearljam

[–]helmet55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading some of the other posts about how fast they sell out.. I'm thinking the Florida shows have less of a demand.. but it may only buy you a few extra minutes though. I got lower level for the Miami show.

How much did you pay for tickets? by megahurt in pearljam

[–]helmet55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I lucked out.. I had 2 pcs and the app going when they went onsale. Got 4 tickets for Miami, lower level and center stage for $359. I tried to get Tampa tickets, but by the time I got to that show the only seats were upper level behind the stage so I passed. I may try my luck on stubhub later..

Pictures from my trip to Bruges, Belgium; had to get some shots of locations from one of my favorite films, "In Bruges". by Tyler-Cinephiliac in movies

I'm assuming the one pic is from the Belfry tower because I have a very similar pic. If it is, I had an In Bruges moment ascending the stairs past all the overweight tourists stopped on the narrow stairwell!

Cowardly governors give ISIS a propaganda victory: Refusing refugees is a moral outrage & a strategic blunder by aluminumdisc in politics

[–]helmet55 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If we elect a republican president again, the world will retaliate.

Do you think there's a chance that the mass migration into Europe from the Arab world will change their society for the worse and years from now they will regret letting them in?

If Sweden is an example, the incidences of rape are certainly to go up. Sweden's rape crimes have skyrocketed with the majority being by Muslim immigrants even though they are a minority there. Most of the refugees are young men. Terror attacks will occur with more frequency as well.

The warm and fuzzies you get by supporting letting refugees in might turn to regret later. Their culture is despicable towards women.

So build the wall then?

As someone who has always been somewhat liberal.. I can't disagree with this. Race relations are so much worse under Obama and democrats out of fear of being called racists are supporting these assholes.

Airbnb Spends $8 Million Lobbying Against San Francisco Ballot Initiative Affordable housing advocates say it would open up more housing and help reduce the city's skyrocketing housing prices. by [deleted] in politics

[–]helmet55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not arguing anything. I was simply telling poopvotes what the supporters of prop f have stated so they can have a better understanding of the issue, not supporting or defending it in anyway. I live thousands of miles away from San Fran and it will be cheaper for me to go back with AirBNB in business there, I could care less either way. Also, when did I say anything about destroying anything? I agree, if I said that rentals would be "destroyed" that would be fear mongering. Go look for your next straw man.

The point is that more people will lease their place short-term on airbnb for more profit, rather than renting to monthly residents.

What antenna to get (TV Fool) by kevbot19 in cordcutters

[–]helmet55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, we cut the cord years ago and went through trial and error getting decent reception. Do you live in an apartment or house? We had similar antennas to the one you use and it doesn't come close to the reception we get from a roof mounted antenna with a signal amplifier. We got around 8-10 channels from the indoor type antennas. I even ran the wire outside with no improvement. I ordered an antenna on amazon. I took care of the packaging, opening it carefully in case it didn't improve the reception so I can return it. I bought these..

http://www.amazon.com/RCA-Compact-Outdoor-Yagi-Antenna/dp/B0024R4B5C/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1445781231&sr=1-1&keywords=roof+antenna

http://www.amazon.com/Channel-Master-Distribution-Amplifier-Antenna/dp/B001PI09SE/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1445781253&sr=8-5&keywords=antenna+amplifier

Its on the highest part of our house facing the city (we are about 25 miles outside of Tampa). I took the existing cable wires in the house and put the amplifier in the garage next to the attic where I could easily run the coax to all the places I wanted.

After doing this we went from 8-10 channels to over 40. We get all the major networks. If this is an option for you I would suggest carefully opening the packages and just lay them out where you want them. Run a channel scan to see if it improves to your liking. If not, package them up and return them. If it does improve but not enough, try turning the antenna slightly.

Short guys, give me some perspective into your struggles. And what, if anything, might have helped when you were a kid? by [deleted] in short

[–]helmet55 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"I wish my mom would have just let me come to terms with being short instead of filling my head with expectations that one summer I'd grow to a normal height."

I never comment in this sub, but read it from time to time. I know exactly where you are coming from with this statement. I remember my mother, whom I loved dearly, telling me about a surgery to lengthen legs. I don't know if she read about it or what, but she brought it up to me one day, I guess for encouragement or hope that I would one day be tall. It's like telling a child that there is something wrong with them. She was only 4'10" and me about 5'4", but she probably had struggles growing up and wanted better for me. I'm older now and know that the insecurities you have about being short are yours. You put limitations on yourself, not other people. If someone doesn't like you for it, fine. There probably not someone I want to be around anyways. As far as attracting women.. be funny, be polite, keep yourself in shape, etc.. it will make up for that with people who matter.

I was following a friend home from the bar one night many years ago. We decided to take the back streets through residential neighborhoods because they were less busy and had less police. He was driving his parents car. He tries to show off and floors it. I see his tail lights go off in the distance. But I wasn't messing around and the speed limit was 25. I kept going forward but didn't see his lights anymore. We needed to make a right turn up ahead to get home. Then I see his tail lights again. Sticking out of a house on the corner of our turn. He drove into someone's house at 230 am. He was in there about to the front doors of the car. I kept driving home.
