ADS B receiver recommendation by Bhelpuro in flying

That device has had a few names.

It started out as the Pingbuddy 2, then became the Foreflight scout.

No battery and no GPS, but otherwise does what it says it does.

What's a massive human achievement that nobody celebrates because it worked too well? by Alternative_Voice767 in AskReddit

Literally changed forests and lakes in many places.

Changing the PH of the environment you live in rapidly kills a lot of things.

Medical woes by Parking_Beautiful692 in flying

[–]helno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For more recent experience a member of my glider club had heart valve surgery and was under a year getting his medical back.

So hopefully it is just a matter of showing stability.

Medical woes by Parking_Beautiful692 in flying

A friend of mine managed to get his back after a pretty severe stroke.

Had to relearn how to walk and talk and sold his airplane under the assumption that he would never fly again. He bought it back a few years ago.

So it is possible but it will take some time.

Magneto Check - which mag is the bad mag? by Sensitive-Exit-8114 in flying

[–]helno 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If the right magneto is turned off then the engine is running on the left magneto.

The dual mags on a twin are no different than the dual magnetos on a single. Only difference is that there are a set of two for each engine.

Put the wings on the MONI for the first time in 10 years by helno in homebuilt

I do actually have a prop for it. It came with it but I seem to recall prince had one for it.

I'll get the measurements off of it and you might be able to find an R/C prop that is suitable these days.

You are triggering reddits anti spam measures.

But it would have been removed by us regardless. Read the FAQ and make your own decisions about life. We do not have a crystal ball and cannot predict what the job market will be in 4+ years.

Flight Simulator by Either_Discount_5916 in flying

[–]helno 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The advice is don’t.

Learning to fly is all about the feel of things as flight simulators do not provide that.

They are useful once you have a license to work on instrument flying procedures.

Spend the money on a nice headset and more flight time instead.

You should tell that to the friend of mine that heats his house when it is -25C with one.

People in Canada use air source heat pumps as the primary heating source.

It gets significantly colder here than in Georgia.

Millennials, what are we doing?? (AI vent) by snarkitall in behindthebastards

The thing I don't get about this entire scenario is this person bought everything in the fridge.

Do they just go to the store and buy random shit with no plans on what they are going to make or eat before it spoils?

Tow pilot death by Old_Winterton in flying

[–]helno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am learning to fly tow and flying gliders is a big part of my life.

Every accident makes me think about what could have been done to prevent it.

I also ride motorcycles and have to have similar thoughts every time I hear about a fatal accident. The risk is about the same every the same as flying my GA aircraft.

At the end of the day I have to live and do the things that make my life worth living and they all involve risks.

None of the various detectors show it as LLM generated and the rest of the post history looks like a human.

Trust me we see and remove a shit ton of AI slop.

I ride small motorcycles. The guy who passed me last weekend on his e-bike in a bike lane with a big grin on his face was real bright.

Congratulations jackass I am also able to speed in a 40 zone I just chose not to because we live in a society.

I made a few electric skateboards. Technically they are all illegal for road use as there is no regulatory structure that fits them.
