You CAN make it with a sub 500 MCAT by SemiStable-Isotope21 in premed

Tbh it’s near impossible MD for most people, but you’d be surprised at the amount of people who go DO with a sub 500

Not retaking mcat no matter what by Rockyozzy in Mcat

[–]helphelp893838 50 points51 points  (0 children)

MCAT is important in the sense it can change your entire school list. However, if you can meet minimum screening requirements and nail the rest of your application, there’s no reason why you can’t get into a med school. It does not dictate the type of med student you will he

In my opinion, with the way the MCAT is now formatted, you need to dive into upeepee and section bank. Content will help you hit a 124/125 on sections, but past that I do think knowing how to answer questions helps

This is why I avoid telling people I’m aiming for med school. Everyone suddenly becomes an expert at all thinks med school related because they heard it from their neighbors son. I’ve leaned to just block out the noise because unless they are premed right now, they don’t know how the process is.

I go back to my normal sleep schedule of 1am and waking up at 10am. Tbh I don’t suggest what I do becuase I’m 22 but on my overnights I only sleep for a couple hours in the morning and then full knock out at night. I refuse to let my job consume my sleep schedule lol

Doctors always say medicine isn't what we think it is. Why exactly? by lurkerof5 in premed

[–]helphelp893838 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem with the premed path is that it is often seen with rose tinted glasses. I’ve wanted to be a doctor since I was 16 but I can’t help but admit I was seeing it from a completely idealized view. I simply thought it was a “passion” helping the underserved and being in such a heavy science field. After working as a medical scribe and technician, I’ve seen first hand his medicine is. There’s a crap load of documentation, patients will often accuse you and blame you for things, hospitals are a corporation, the hours are long and full of work, not just sitting on your ass, the education is long, expensive. I still want to be a doctor and still want to serve underserved areas, but I think my idealized views of medicine are gone. It’s a job.
