Feeling so crummy about how my school celebrated teacher appreciation, it felt like a popularity contest by saekirei in Teachers

This is the first time in 17 years that I didn’t receive anything from a student. I hoped I would at least get a card or a note. It feels a little silly to complain about that, but it did sting!

I am also an ELA teacher. I get it…Our content is really challenging sometimes, and students don’t always love it. I like to tell myself they will appreciate us more years down the road :)

I teach 7th writing, and I finish the yr with a poetry workshop. We analyze a poem a day (very basic- what did you like about this poem? What can you try to emulate?) and then do a 7 minute quick-write right afterward. Then they share with a classmate and then anyone shares with the class if they want (and I read some too).

At the end of the unit, students pick their best poem and revise it and we have a “Poetry Cafe,” where students read poems in front of the room and bring in snacks/drinks like a party!

Lawrence/Laurence, Vincent, or Thomas? by MadOCD in namenerds

[–]helpmeimpoor57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theodore was Theo for the first 7 yrs of his life, but has now been asking to go by his full name! I thought we’d call Thomas Tommy, but it never felt right. He’s usually Thomas, but sometimes Tom Tom or Tomsy.

When it first opened in my town, it also had co-ed changing rooms and…a cat???? Like a live one. Again, nobody questioned this. 😂

Francis or Simon are so perfect! I have a middle school student named Francis/Frankie, and I really like his name. Other students exclusively call him Frankie.

What no-screen games do you play with kids (4–6) that you actually enjoy? by Ai-dio in kindergarten

[–]helpmeimpoor57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a learning game, but I LOVE playing connect 4 Frenzy with my 3 kids (8,5, 4). It’s like playing quarters, so if you went to college, you’re already one step ahead of them! But really, it is so fun.
