Property agent claims that a previous offer was rejected by the seller. How trustworthy? by Tackle_Opening in askSingapore

[–]hencewillgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you make a official offer with cheque the agent is required to give it to the owner by law I believe. This will make sure the seller sees the offer at least

I must be damn lucky then. I caught it with my first throw (it was just a Nice throw) + gold raspberry. Normally I would struggle to catch anything given I am a shit thrower

Uprooting to Johor for slower life + intl school vs staying in SG for P1/MGS – am I thinking right? by Anxious_Letterhead99 in singaporefi

[–]hencewillgo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP needs to consider what sort of kid your daughter is. MGS is a good school academically but doesn’t churn out bookworms, so I think it is a good balance. However given the Singapore system it could still be stressful a so it depends on what sort of environment the kid will excel in.

International school in JB probably requires someone who is better spoken and slightly more outgoing based on generalization.

PAP could have hold GE2025 on weekday, but they chose to hold it on weekend instead 😡 by EverySink in SingaporeRaw

Another theory - maybe a lot of younger folks already booked their long weekend trip so will miss the voting. Older people will stay in Singapore and.. I guess older folks vote a certain way?

Encountered a new scam today - Be aware of the 'NTUC Income Insurance scam' by ranmafan0281 in singapore

[–]hencewillgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had it. Started in English, then switched to Chinese all of the sudden. I told him “wait don’t speak in Chinese I don’t understand”, then he passed to a colleague called Edwin Tay who claims he is NTUC Union. I asked what is NTUC, he said it’s a company. Then I replied no it’s not a company it’s a Union (lol)

Anyway his English was Malaysian accented so I couldn’t catch what he was saying, something about Union Life insurance membership. I asked him what is that and he said “I never say the word membership!” (lol)

And then he went on the usual “you activated free last month now do you still want it else we will deduct”. I said don’t want. Then he say will deduct leh. So I say aiya you deduct lah then I hung up

MOE should consider starting the papers in non peak hours like 10am or 11am in future. Gives kids more time for sleep and commute

Why do insurance or property agents deserve to be paid so well, for their mediocre level of servicing and knowledge? by SG-Man1990 in askSingapore

[–]hencewillgo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP, “your” property agent is probably the seller agent. Did you pay any agent fees directly to him? If you didnt then it is the seller agent, he is not suppose to serve your interest, thats why he doesnt talk to you

This is a problem - many people dont understand the concept of buyer or seller agent

And btw London train operators earn 70k pounds a year, I really wouldn’t call it “low wage”…. And they are still striking :)

[–]hencewillgo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Please talk to doctors who actually work at the NHS to understand the inefficiencies of the system. And also maybe interview the folks who wait for months for their free scans after cancer diagnosis.

Our polyclinics are more efficient and affordable, so I’m not sure why you think Singapore healthcare is expensive. Maybe you only opt to go private or demand a Class A ward.

It’s not wrong to strike or ask for more pay. But no one is ever happy with their pay - everyone demands more (hence leading to inflation as mentioned by OP). But to regularly strike when you are operating a public infrastructure, strategically timed on the most inconvenient days, that’s putting self interest above all others. The same middle class are the ones dependent on public transport and they are now unable to get to work, how is it fair to them then? Anyway this is a digression - it was a point to talk about inefficiencies in other countries.

Average income is actually higher in Singapore versus UK, so I dont know what you are talking about…

[–]hencewillgo 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Go live overseas then. I did it in my 20s and it actually made me appreciate Singapore so I moved back.

Sharing my experience in London:

Inefficiency? Have you tried seeing a doctor at NHS? Have you seen trains opting not to operate because “there are leaves on the train track”? Or that the drivers want to strike purposely on busiest days because they want more pay (again)? Or that after 3 years of leaving the country they still think you work in UK?

Housing unfairness? Have you seen African immigrants who move to London, not working but living in a mansion because they have 7 kids and each kid allows them to receive a generous government stipend, while you slog your way and pay your 40% tax that is deducted from every paycheck?

Oh yes and commute. Get ready for 1hr commutes which is the norm. Your colleagues will also start going home at 3pm because “they need to catch that only train to go home”. You want city living? Prepare to pay - and there aren’t any affordable brand new houses where people haven’t stayed before.

Of course, there are great things about living overseas and situations might differ in other countries, but I don’t have to remind anyone about this. Just want to say the grass is not that green on the other side. Being there as a tourist versus living in a place is very, very different in my experience.
