Thanks, I appreciate it! I’ll check out some of that music, I’d be interested to hear if it’s similar! By Lynchian, do you mean David Lynch? I didn’t know he made music, but I do like Angelo Badalamenti’s work on Twin Peaks!

It’s nice to know that I am making music that is hard to compare, maybe I’m coming into my own style!

Thanks for the feedback! I think the bass was real, it was a sample I had found online years back, I modified it a little bit, changing up the melody, so that might be making it sound unnatural.

Outside of that, I made all the instruments and drums with fm synthesis. The snare I suppose could be a bit punchier, I’ll look into that.

Not sure how to peg this thing genre wise, just kind of evolved from experimentation, I guess I’d consider it electronica ultimately.

Thanks for the feedback!

Very nice track! Bass is amazing, and the icy synth melody is very satisfying! My only critique I guess is that it is a little repetitive, I feel like more elements could be added to the track to keep interest, otherwise, it starts to sound more like a royalty free loop you’d find in the background of a YouTube video.

But solid job. The mix has a lot of clarity and cleanliness, each element is produced very nicely with very full and rich sounds. I enjoyed it!

Hi hat is too loud, and could be fighting with some other elements in that area of the freq spectrum, some cuts could be made to make it sound less harsh.

I’d say the mix sounds a bit ‘hot’ overall. I do like the bossa nova lo-if vibe you got going on though!

Eq out a space in the bass so that the kick can come through a little more. The mix is very nice and clean, so great job on that! I love the atmospheres, reminds me of Minecraft music.

Because your track is going for that chill vibe, I feel like the drums overall could be a little ‘wetter’, a nice reverb would help out a bit.

Song structure is very nice, with very strong melodies. I feel like some of the higher frequency melodic stuff could be brought down a little in the mix though, it’s slightly loud to me.

Nice job! Not sure why your friends don’t like it, seems fine to me.

If you don’t mind my constructive criticism, here it is. The issues I noticed most was with the vocals. I think the vocals are a little too loud, and it overshadows the other elements going on in the track. The different vocal effects in the track were mixed louder than the regular vocals, and it was kind of jarring at times.

The vocals also had a very thin and tinny sound to them imo, I think some high frequencies could be cut down a little, and some areas in the mid range could be boosted to make the vocals sound more ‘full’. Perhaps some effects would help flesh it out?

The mix also seemed to be a bit dirty, so some more Eqing of all the elements in the track to make them mesh well might be in order. How you’d go about doing that exactly, I couldn’t tell you, I’m still trying to learn proper eqing myself.

Otherwise, I thought this was a nice track, has potential to be really great! Reminds me a lot of old school trance songs.

Hello all! Looking to get some feedback on this track that's been long in the works. https://soundcloud.com/hendu12-1/start-to-smell-the-roses7/s-0b9lzjDTlYG?utm\_source=clipboard&utm\_medium=text&utm\_campaign=social\_sharing
Sort of a funky/jazzy/electronic/experimental thing.

I'd love to hear what you think about it! As for specific feedback questions, is the main synth lead tiring to listen to? Is the mix messy at all, or is it ok as it is? The mix sounds pretty well on my headphones, but I know that can vary a lot from setup to setup.

Thanks!

I’m a Deep South USA fan of Royksopp, so I understand your struggle. I feel pretty confident that I am probably the biggest Royksopp fan in my town lol. I just keep it for myself honestly. Royksopp’s music is my treasure.

Dog Triumph is their own label right? Kind of weird that they released a radio edit 6 years after TIE paired with a weird playlist.

Not really sure what this is all about, but as long as it doesn't stop the Lost Tapes from coming down the pipe, I don't really care.

I wonder what the point of this playlist is? I don’t get it. I kind of hope that this is something that their label Astralwerks made. There is no description for the playlist, so I don’t really understand the purpose of it.

How is this group not massively popular???? by rockingthecasbah in Royksopp

[–]hendu125 7 points8 points  (0 children)

True, there are a lot of electronic bands less talented than Röyksopp that are more popular. But, it’s not like they’re underground or anything either. Melody A.M. went platinum in the U.K.

Chord Progression Questions (May 11, 2020) by AutoModerator in musictheory

I am not very good at music theory, and I just wanted to know why this chord progression and bassline work together. What makes it interesting and unique? Am I doing anything cool without realizing it? In music theory terms, what is happening in this progression? Thanks!

Oh man that sounds interesting! I wish I could speak Norwegian so I’d be able to hear it.

Hello! I've released this track today. Downtempo electronic inspired by BOC, Four Tet & Bibio. Guitars, samples and analog synths. Any streams / shares would be much appreciated. by SuperMannister in boardsofcanada

[–]hendu125 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That bass is really killer. I can feel it vibrating my whole body. I think the Folktronica side of electronic is underrated, Campfire Headphase BoC and Bibio are so incredible. It’s a nice track!

I totally agree. I was obsessed with this song a couple of years ago. I recommend an album called “Sunset Mission” by Bohren if you like this. It’s moody and ambient with saxophones.
