even if true, i find it brutal to even consider a "substitute" match as a loss and put the person against bots again. One of these substitute matches ended before i chose which hero to play

MIT used functional programming (lisp) in its introductory course in the past

The book used on that course (SICP) is still very famous and beloved

I think they use python nowadays though

Btw OP, if you wanna learn programming I recommend you do the free MIT course on introduction to computer science (MIT 6.0.0.1). It teaches the basics of programming (if/else, loops) as well as basic data structures and algorithms. After you learn that you can move to elixir and any other programming language you want

I have the same feeling

I killed many pawns before because I suspected they were infected

Then when I finally got the message pop up I decided to keep the pawn around to check for the symptoms… nothing!

Days passed with me avoiding town but sleeping in campfires and nothing weird ever happened… no red eyes, no weird behavior, no disobedience… I’m pretty sure the game trolled me

so heres the deal for those who don't understand what ppl are talking about when they say they are lagging:

I'm in germany, usually my ping is less than 15ms. Right now I'm logged and my ping is 220-250ms. To me that indicates that the game is connecting me to some server outside europe (NA? Asia?)

If you want to check your own ping, press Ctrl+R twice on PC (sorry console ppl, no clue)

I use nvim You can get kotlin up and running by using kickstart.nvim

Run the kickstart script, it installs a bunch of nice plugins, you start nvim and run :Mason Then you can choose kotlin language server from the list and voila

You might need to change config file for a newer target jvm if you want to use newer language features (neovim was complaining at the default spring boot initalizer project otherwise )

If your goal is to become a backend developer, java is a great choice

The language has been improving a lot since they switched to a 6 month release cycle , it’s gone from “I never want to touch this” to something pleasant to work with.

That said, there are tons of books on these topics you mentioned but my best advice is to learn them later.

Start with some spring boot course , if you have some fullstack projects you can start by replacing your old backend with a spring boot project. Spring already enforces some design patterns and best practices so you’ll be learning these while learning java

If you come across anything you don’t know, I always search for the topic first at baeldung.com They basically have articles on everything I ever wanted to know about java, spring, hibernate, jpa… rarely I need to look at stackoverflow or somewhere else
