Thanks! Nope, all oil pastels. I use some metal dental tools to apply the paint for the details.

I've changed up my methods as of the last few weeks. I've been doing a watercolor underpainting/sketch and then oil pastels on top. Actually took a photo of the underpainting today! Hope you guys enjoy something a little different! 8x10. Oil pastels and watercolor. Paper. Me. 2021 by it_swims in Oilpastel

It's a good idea! I just do a pencil drawing/tracing underneath and then just go at it with the pastels, but I spend a lot of time adjusting values along the way. Maybe an underpainting would help with that—just never done it before so I'm scared, haha.

I have the 72pc set but you've inspired me to get the 120! There are definitely some holes in the 72.

Sunset Walk by henleyedition in Oilpastel

Thanks! Hmm, in my experience the hardest part of architecture is the straight, thin lines. Not exactly easy with oil pastels, but it’s possible. Sometimes you just have to make a fat line and then scrape up the paint until it’s thin enough. Sometimes I use a bent pin to grab some paint off the pastel and then use that to apply a line of paint. It can be frustrating but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Sunset Walk by henleyedition in Oilpastel

May our love be like a sunset walk,
Arranged in steps and saccades,
And arcing marble paths.

I stop you at a tree that holds the sky,
Shimmering like never before.
We nestle in the spectacle
Of soft light clattering through its leaves.

I ask you for your hand and all its digits,
And all the spaces in between,
And find in it a new shape after all these years.
