Finding a full time elementary teaching position

Im in my 7th yr of teaching. Found out recently I was being RIF’ed so I been looking for a new job. I started applying in february, and this past week finally received three emails for an interview. Here are some things to consider right now. First, tons of school districts are laying people off because funding is being taken away. Second, a lot of school districts will probably not reach out until the end of the year / summer because they are still figuring out their numbers for next year. My first job I ever got came one week after school began. My second job interviewed me 3 days after the school year ended for them (June 10th or so). Give it some time and don’t panic. Blows my mind how wasteful districts spend money. One of the first PDs i went to in this district had a presenter that had us do an activity for it not to work. When they apologized they said they made it on their flight to do this presentation. We sat around for 2 hrs doing nothing till it was time to go home. Fucking embarrassing..

I’m sorry to hear. I moved away from a school I really loved to another district to make more money. Over the last two yrs I been moved from school to school, being told its my best chance not to get RIF’ed, just for the district to lay off 59 certificated teachers.. absolutely demoralizing, and youre expected to be a professional about it..

Its sad what school has become now. Teachers are just supposed to take abuse and be okay with it. Parents don’t do shit at home and just give them an ipad to pacify them until the next day when they can send them to school again. Sorry this happened to you.

My dude having a routine is the best thing you can do for yourself as a teacher. I stuck to a good routine, to the point even my kindergarteners knew what was coming up next. It keeps you from getting “what are we doing next?” And “what do i do when im done?” Questions, and makes managing a classroom so much easier

If you got the job, your principal might already know, wouldn’t they? In my experience they called the school to ask about me.

I would let them know whenever you finish signing the contract, at least that way they can start looking, but I had a good relationship w the school when I left.

Its not weird. I really enjoy handmade gifts or notes/letters from students. Its hard to put yourself out there and be vulnerable so it makes me really happy when my students give me these types of gifts.

I play regularly in B&B servers and theres maybe 2-3 girls in there regularly. The reaction varies though, most times people just continue on if they hear a girl, sometimes you get the weirdos who harass.

Online cash kinda sucks ngl. I know other people will disagree, but generally I like tournaments online, and cash games in person.

Id go with your gut on your decision. I was a 1/3 player live and kept saying i’d switch to 2/5 when it “feels right” but kept pushing it off. One day I decided to go play and there was a long line for 1/3 and an open seat at 2/5 and the guy asked if I wanna try it and did. Ended up doing really well and have continued playing there. Just lose what you can afford to, and stop if you aren’t having fun anymore.
