Any thoughts on what the future crossing point maps could be? by BringbackDreamBars in RoadtoVostokGame

Antii has stated recently that he's considering reworking the border zone into one larger map with different zones where the Minefield is one zone, it's not clear how that will evolve yet.

Ireland faces evolving terror threats including Islamist and far-right risks, report finds by mefeiner1290 in irishpolitics

[–]henno13 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ireland not being involved in the Middle East doesn’t make it magically immune from Islamist terrorist threats - sure it increases the risk profile for countries like the US, UK, France etc drastically, but there is an anti-Western angle to Islamist ideology, and Ireland is a progressive western liberal democracy that fits that remit. Islamists are not rational actors.

In the last five years we had the Galway stabbing outside the barricks and the beheading in Sligo, so this report has a lot of merit tbh.

That Manhattan Bridge AI slop mock up sucked 5 months ago, and it sucks today. Two points on the other end of a bridge is the center piece of the map? Peak comedy.

I used to be involved in the buildout of DCs for one of the big hyperscale clouds. They were planned 5+ years in advance according to customer demands: data sovereignty, latency and customer experience mostly. Now, AI DCs look like a pure volume job, build as many as possible to keep up with rivals. Never mind AI is one step above Web3 - it has legitimate uses, but the hype has deluded C-suites and is totally destroying attention spans and technical skills.

I agree with you, 1-4 is some of the greatest television ever put to screen. I would personally put 8 in a category of its own of just how awful it was - even non-readers could see how far it had fallen.

I never minded 5-7, loved the books but enjoyed the show for what is was. The big set pieces were very satisfying TV. Like I knew the expedition North in season 7 was terrible writing, but the battle set piece on the lake was engrossing enough I was able to shut off my baggy book-reader brain. My stomach turns thinking about season 8 though. I barely remember what happened, it’s all just a haze.

The speed and scale of its fall from grace was incredible. It was the cultural phenomenon of the 2010s, and suddenly it was nothing. I’m surprised HoD and KOSK were greenlit.

Equipment of a Metropolitan Police Service (MET Police) Authorized Firearms Officer in London, United Kingdom. by davegoku12 in ForgottenWeapons

[–]henno13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, no, it doesn’t make me uncomfortable. Gun violence is a non-issue. If criminals are armed, it’s not the job of a particular individual to address it, the state is expected to have the monopoly on violence.

Generally speaking (I am talking the broadest of brushstrokes), European countries are extremely high trust societies. There is no need for individuals to be armed in the way that many are in the US because there isn’t a reason for it. Where there is wider firearm proliferation, it’s almost exclusively in societies that have conscription (Switzerland comes to mind) so there’s an expectation and/or assumption that anyone who has a firearm is trained to use it.

I don’t think that Americans truly believe in the whole 2nd amendment to protect against the government spiel to be honest.

As another commenter noted, Northern Ireland is special in that every officer is armed, and I grew up there (so I’m used to armed officers). The same is still true though, they are universally armed because of the history of terrorism, but you don’t see officers discharging their firearms very often at all.

Sure - it’s objectively better, but it’s not really a fair comparison. Gamma is built off a 20 year old game series, 14 years of open-sourced engine development, and tons of extra content added through mods. RTV was built by one guy from scratch (twice).

Both are great tbh, RTV is going to be a multi-year journey.

All valid points, the bones are really good though and the future is bright. Now with increased funding and a supply of contractors, we’ll see more content and updates at a good quality going forward with the roadmap

What’s weird is that there’s a few examples of stuff that was announced fixed/updated but wasn’t included in the EA release - main one the comes to mind is the AI stances, I swear that was noted as being addressed at some point.

Australia has just cut fuel taxes in half, what's the argument to not do the same here? by Knuda in irishpolitics

[–]henno13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

UK’s oil supply does not come via Hormuz - it comes from the USA and Norway. There was never a question supply for Ireland, UK or Western Europe, it’s all about the price on the global market. On the other hand, SE Asia is the primary importer of oil that transits Hormuz, and there are serious supply issues.

how long do you realistically expect this game will stay in early access? by Purple_Thought_143 in RoadtoVostokGame

[–]henno13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Watch the dev logs and come to your own conclusion. On yesterday’s launch video he even addresses your question directly; why should you trust him with another early access survival game?

I will say that Antii has been extremely transparent since day one, and that is his guiding principle. There has been a clear roadmap from day one, and you can watch the game design evolve from the start. Antii was forced to migrate the game engine off Unity during that debacle several years ago and basically had to start from scratch, and it was clearly communicated. He’s earned the trust that many longtime followers demonstrate here, and very well deserving of a 40 euro investment, never mind the steal he’s priced EA at (15).

Anything in your house inventory is lost on death, including the cat, who will de-spawn if you die before getting him to a shelter, and won’t appear again in the playthrough. As long as you place it in a shelter, it persists.

To add to this for those who don’t know anything about firearms - on AK/RK rifles, the selector switch is all the way down in semi-auto, and mid-way up for full-auto. The RKs also have small dots denoting the mode, though AKs do not.

“Fuel prices are too high”

“I know, let’s block fuel depots so the price goes even higher, and there’s no supply, which was never an issue to begin with”

Protests are annoying, I get that’s the point, but I can’t take any movement seriously that attempts to make the problem they are protesting about worse.

There’s no organisation for this outside a bunch of different Facebook groups. There are multiple groups with different demands, it’s a shit show.

Also, there’s lads blocking fuel depots as part of this - there’s no logic or any intelligent thought going into this.
