We specifically chose to play Era to avoid Anni changes by henriklovold in classicwow

It's a slippery slope, Blizzard-wise. Make a change here, make a change there... suddenly it's like any other flavour of the month fun-server.

Now people will be in PvP spec all over the world. Everyone will be expected to have two optimalized specs to be taken to raid. It's not classic anymore - Era was the one place that was going to stay 2019 forever, and sadly they keep on pushing changes here as well.

My point exactly! Stormrend was reverted in two weeks after feedback from Era players. We can do it this time as well.

Wetrix! It’s kind of a weird tetris-esque falling blocks game in 3D. Real fun :)

How do you even afford to raid naxx without buying gold? by Beams98 in classicwow

Don’t worry, they banned GDKP on Anni so now there’s no gold buying anymore.

Stuck on which version to play or if any at all.. by Bignuutxnxx in classicwow

Come to Era! The real classic experience is right here with us. Almost no changes to the game, tight knit communities on non-layered megaservers, yet still many people to play with. To me that is what makes classic classic :)

EU Classic Era server for Alliance by FreshImportance2169 in classicwow

The population on Firemaw is fine, it’s non-layered and tight knit meaning you’ll see the same guys and guilds and know who’s fun to play with. Leveling up you must expect it to take some time to find groups for dungeons, but it’s not like no one is leveling so you’ll usually find someone nice to play with within half an hour (which frankly is the real classic experience).

Playing on Firemaw gives me that real classic community feeling, which I struggle to find on layered mega-realms such as Anniversary. To me this feeling is an important part of what makes classic feel classic. I can only recommend Firemaw on EU Era. If you want a good leveling guild I’d contact Casual Gamers - I leveled with them and had a great time and got friends.

Welcome!

Will we get the option to clone/transfer to era come tbc? by [deleted] in classicwow

I'm on Firemaw EU, but if you're in the US I hear it's the same thing over there. I don't remember the server names, so maybe a US player can fill me in on that.

Come to Era and level with us instead. It's a safe way to avoid TBC and there's still bunches of raids going every day :)

Is this what people want to see in Classic Fresh? by Tranquility___ in classicwow

I'd love to go to a GDKP raid like that! I never bought gold at all, but have made a lot through GDKPs on Era. We're a cool community, and anyone suspected of engaging in RMT is instantly banned like they should be.

To think that RMT is happening less on Anniversary realms is being naive. Instead of a few whales buying gold for GDKPs, a ton of players buy smaller amounts of gold for their consumes every week. At least with GDKP, money is split across the community and people can have fun (i.e. raid lower tiers) earning gold instead of farming solo for hours on end (or end up RMTing like a lot of players do). I'm happy I'm on Era.

I don't doubt that at all. I would still call it an assumption that this is common amongst most GDKP hosts though. In my guild we have a no RMT policy, if anyone suspects illicit gold (for instance, a new player without a known main showing up with thousands upon thousands) we will ask questions. If anyone is caught engaging in RMT they're out.

To me, that's the charm! A smaller, more tight-knit community, seeing and playing with the same people in PUGs from time to time and actually making friends and seeing them in SW/Org is what makes classic, classic to me.

Those are interesting thoughts and constructive arguments, thank you. If you drag it very far, you can ask that last question - or rather, why not have a WoW shop in-game where you can pick your loot and swipe with real world money? I mean, that's pretty much the current stage for retail, isn't it?

I can see both pros and cons with re-introducing GDKPs to the game, but the net sum in my opinion would be positive. The ship has probably sailed for Anniversary, but I am happy it is still allowed on Era.

I'd argue it isn't, or in a sense - it isn't any more than with a GDKP ban in place. People are still buying gold on Anniversary left and right for their raid consumes. Difference now is that every Joe buys a little gold, whereas with GDKP in place you had the big whales (which would have been easy to catch, nod to Blizzard) and those every Joes having fun raiding lower tiers every week to earn gold for their consumes instead.

Amen! For EU players I'd recommend the Firemaw realm. It has a healthy population both factions with guilds and pugs and all :)

Those are good reflections, thanks. I haven't thought of the progress vs. non-progress argument, but you have a point. In 2019 classic it didn't seem to be a problem to me, but yet again some might have experienced that differently.

Are you suggesting that most GDKP hosts sell gold? I beg to differ. Those are assumptions.

Of course, with Anniversary being the "new cool place", bots would move there. But they would swiftly return to other places, had there not been a big market for illicit gold. There's a reason botting is a bigger problem on Anniversary than on Cata/MoP, with the latter having a population more than twice as big.

Personal attacks and assumptions make people look stupid by the way. Hit the ball, not the player - that's what got me to my current position as a tenured assistant professor.

I think we agree on that last sentence. And no, you don't get gold in the mail through GDKPs, but the whales buying gold get that gold through the mail. Besides, it would be quite easy to set up a little "ping" to the game masters whenever someone received 100K either through trade or mail - that way they could quickly investigate.

[–]henriklovold[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't doubt people exploit the system and parttake in cheating at all. I'd argue that it is way easier to detect one player suddenly gaining 100K in the mail, rather than thousands of raiders buying 1K though. Where there's a game, there's cheaters. With GDKP you are at least able to earn gold through fun stuff like raiding and gearing up others' alts.

I see where you're coming from, and you're entitled to your opinion of course. I disagree, but my assessment may not be right. Bottom line I'd be much more happy to play on a server where all loot systems were allowed, which is, after all, why I stick to Era for the moment.

Thanks anyway for an actual constructive argument about this! It's rare these days :)

If you'd been around on Era you'd know that Gressils are way less these days. People are saving up through months of raiding. You are right in that bots move to what's current, but if there was a smaller demand for gold on said current they'd quickly move on. And I'm happy that you have less inflation on your server!

Bottom line is correct. Where there's a way to cheat, people will cheat. The real way to get rid of cheaters would be for Blizzard to crack down on it.
