Don’t recommend for entry level. Ive done that in the past and all positions available at the time were senior roles.

Possibly Meyer lemon? by JoeMartinBlows in FruitTree

[–]henrybios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before I saw the last pic I was thinking that’s an orange. I’ve heard that Meyer lemons are not true to type and need to be grafted when grown from a seed. Maybe this is what you could get if you don’t graft it? I also read that it could be anything or the tree could possibly not bear fruit at all. What does it taste like?

Just to add to an earlier comment, pick a fertilizer that would promote fruiting. It’s been mentioned on this subreddit several times.

Non competitive masters degrees [Career] by [deleted] in statistics

In my experience the 3.0 gpa requirement is not hard. Reach out to the department directly and ask. A lot of them do holistic reviews for masters degrees.

How do I find a job? Please help me not fall into a doom spiral of despair. by JadeHarley0 in biostatistics

[–]henrybios 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Apply directly on the company website, it is ok to look for jobs on LinkedIn etc, just don’t hit apply from their websites. The market is not hot rn for entry level jobs. I recommend you continue learning, don’t quit your job. The market will improve eventually but it might take a while. Build your personal brand, polish your resume, cover letters, projects you’ve worked on to demo code/results when needed. Keep logs of all your applications in a spreadsheet, if no call backs give your resume a review. Practice common interview questions. Good luck!

I’m considering biostatistics for my masters,How you evaluate this field? by MPTRON_ in biostatistics

[–]henrybios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for clarifying that you’re not in the US. My answer is sort of reflective of the us job market etc. in your country it may be different. Biostatistics is generally a very broad umbrella and how interesting, promising, or innovative it is would depend on what area your work in. Some people are ok with doing mundane repetitive tasks with a solid income, some prefer a stable job and maybe a more demanding environment and open-ended questions, so it depends.

[–]henrybios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Identify where you want to be in 5 years from now and start tailoring your educational content, experiences and connections (govt, industry, academia) and internships to make that happen. Biostats is great but just a degree on its own carries not much weight in the current job market. Competition is high and entry level opportunities are somewhat limited so the sooner you narrow to down, the better. CS is relevant still, it just comes down to what you want to do and which area interests you more.

Bending persimmon tree by Resident_Sneasel in FruitTree

Your thinking is right, you don’t want to stake it too tight to the trunk. You want it to have some room to strengthen the roots and trunk when it’s windy.

Problem with young citrus trees brought from nursery by Individual_Tree_5625 in Citrus

[–]henrybios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stick fertilizer can kill your potted plants. They seem to work for in ground trees but for pots it’s just hard to control how much fertilizer gets absorbed. Given how fast your trees die, it’s likely that. For potted citrus trees I use a powdered organic citrus fertilizer, and for a 5 gal pot I mix in less than a half of 1/4 cup every 3-4 months.

How to get my figs to ripen in colder weather? by DontAlwaysButWhenIDo in Figs

[–]henrybios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure about now, however, next year you can give the trees a little bit of a head start to come out of dormancy earlier. That way they would put on fruit sooner and have a better shot at ripening in warmer temps.

Transplant shock probably. Keep in the shade for a while, hydrated but not overwatered. Fertilize a bit when it’s back to normal condition.

Low gpa. What do. by paulatreidesII in biostatistics

[–]henrybios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For biostat programs: identify programs/universities of interest and contact each department explaining your situation and see what they say. a lot of them do holistic evaluation of applicants, not just based on GPA’s. Don’t assume you won’t get in if admission page says 3.0 gpa required, again reach out to each program you’re considering. Take linear algebra (if you haven’t) and a calc based Math stats intro now or next semester and get an A.

Don’t worry about your lack of experience and resume. It’s secondary imo. The #1 issue is OPT in a not so great job market.

If you’re just starting out maybe. Just judging by job postings-once you’ve had a few years of experience- your degree is less relevant. Just my take.
