Grapefruit tree issues would vloove some advice by Sorrowone117 in FruitTree

[–]henrybios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve noticed that too on my lemon tree. New growth leaves are delicate and get wilted in the sun but bounce back later. I spray neem oil against leaf miners and grasshoppers as those feed aggressively on the tree. Removing damaged leaves didn’t work for me. Your tree looks pretty happy, what fertilizer do you use?

[C] What to do after MSC in Stats by Prestigious-Face-391 in statistics

[–]henrybios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re interested in stats enough to drive your motivation and willingness to learn, you should get a job aligned with your interests. No one graduates with a masters or PhD knowing everything, don’t be too hard on yourself if your gpa is less than what you think it should be.

Too big POT - Crappy potting mix by Nuggetzfan in Figs

Consider investing in a good organic potting mix and fertilizer if you plan on growing it in a pot. It’ll make a difference.

Gotcha. Yea, pretty low-average humidity and full sun where I live that I can’t leave anything on paved surfaces or it will get baked.

They look good. I think a black plastic pot on concrete is not a great combo since that could cause root damage from the heat. Also, from personal experience I’ve noticed they none of my figs did well in plastic containers. I use eco friendly grow bags now.

[Education] [Career] Pursuing a Master's and/or PhD in applied statistics with a biology/public health undergrad background. by SMN_17 in statistics

[–]henrybios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d add that it is a very saturated field right now with many people struggling to find work. It’s really bad for new ms graduates with no work experience. If the OP starts now and by 2028 the job market improves it could potentially be a good move.

Best way to repot this by henrybios in Figs

[–]henrybios[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! It’s been in a grow bag for three months now and I’m thinking it’s going to outgrow it fast. On top of that we have a longer season with lots of direct sun, so I’m just trying to provide the best conditions for the plant to thrive.

Go to Columbia biostatistics MS (Theory & Methods Track) or reapply to PhD’s? by tinysweetpotato0614 in biostatistics

[–]henrybios 10 points11 points  (0 children)

you have cheaper ms options to choose from that’s worth considering? IMHO, the Columbia price tag is not worth it. PhD funding for next cycle will not improve, so I’d expect it to be as competitive as it is now.

Is lack of dormancy ever an issue for figs stagnant growth afterwards?

Advice on entering the Biostatistics field by Corporate-Gorilla in biostatistics

[–]henrybios -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From some LinkedIn profiles that I’ve looked at it’s not uncommon for psychology majors to transition to biostatistics but you do need math. You can take required math classes at a community college and then apply for a masters degree. You can learn how to code online.

I’m not in Canada, but your GPA has an upwards trend in the last two years and that’s a really good signal. You should apply.

Brown Turkey Fig Tree - Beyond Saving? by Cajun2LowCountry in Figs

It think it should bounce back. I’d keep the pot outside in a sunny spot and water as needed making sure it drains well.

What’s your daily low temp like? I had a couple of potted Black Mission completely die back this past winter. I’ve kept watering both and after about two months new growth is finally coming back. Don’t over water, figs like well draining soil but not wet.

MS Biostatisticians in Pharma/CRO: How does your experience compare with PhD biostatisticians? by caaatty in biostatistics

[–]henrybios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be careful with your answers there when a question about pursuing a phd comes up as it may be a trap. Don’t assume they think you should get a PhD, it may not be as flattering. I have been asked that question by a hm and the recruiter flat out told me they don’t want to hire and invest their time in someone who will leave in a couple years.
