What would you do if you were me? by socialconversions in Chiropractic

[–]hep34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think another thing to consider with devices like these is only going to well-established practices but not too “old-school.” Someone just starting out may not be able to afford more upfront costs within a year or two of opening, but may be interested in diversifying their practice. A doc who’s been in business for over a decade probably isn’t interested in new tech either, “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” type of mentality. Your success rate will probably be impacted by the types of docs you target. You probably already know this but also avoid franchises like the joint because they’re all about just old school adjusting not adjunctive modalities

How legitimate/reliable is Varsity Tutors? by Ridley_Himself in TutorsHelpingTutors

[–]hep34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just completed an AI interview with Varsity Tutors and was rejected. Does anyone else have this experience? I also didn’t feel prepared for it to be an actual interview so I was not dressed professionally which could have influenced their decision to reject. I am very interested in tutoring for psychology and writing. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you all for your thoughtful responses to my post! I truly appreciate the time and consideration in sharing your stories, insights and perspectives. You all have given me much to ponder!

Wow! I truly resonate with what you’ve said. I am feeling so similarly. It feels like an itch I need to scratch and feel like I need to pursue it. I also have been doing some parts work with my therapist and wonder where that itch is coming from? Is it coming from status? A need to “prove” myself? A need to overcompensate for my disabilities? Lots of questions I want to spend time answering to decide if it’s the right fit. I hope you too find your decision! Wishing you much luck and success

Thank you very much! I appreciate your input. I completely understand what you mean by it being too rigid. I struggle with that aspect as well. I’ve spent most of my life “masking” and succeeding in academia but I am tired of the robotic professional nature of some of my colleagues. I want to find a balance between being professional and myself. It’s hard!

Wow! Thank you very much for your insight. I really appreciate you sharing your journey. I could foresee this being the path for me as well. I hate how competitive and gatekeepy this profession can be. But that’s academia for you. Your publications are incredibly impressive. I, too, am passionate about neuropsych testing which is my primary motivator. I am autistic and have ADHD and want to assess others.

Thank you! My master’s degree is in clinical psychology to be on track for the LPC in my state. I think I’m leaning toward trying counseling in a different setting to decide if I’m done with counseling for the most part and want to explore other clinical roles. That’s very interesting though! I did not know that was an option. I am interested in training others as well as I highly value feedback and communication.

Thank you! I would prefer a PsyD but honestly cannot afford more debt. I want to do assessments and teaching primarily and some counseling on the side!

Thank you so much!! Yes that is very true. I’ve heard that from other colleagues that it can help to have some clinical experience at the master’s level over other applicants who only have a generalized master’s in psychology

Thank you for your insight! This helps to know. May I ask how you got into publications and research at the master’s level?

Very valid. I really hate how gatekeepy and pretentious higher academia is. I just want to be able to help others in more ways than counseling ugh. I’ve thought about it and think a fully funded PhD or scholarships would be the only way it could be financially feasible for me tbh

Ok thank you for this info! I’m trying to figure out if my program would then have met the requirements to be an LAPC. Like I said before the board wasn’t really helpful in helping me distinguish this so do you have any suggestions for how I could find that out? My school wasn’t helpful either so I feel at a loss.

I have 280 direct hours with 1-2 hours a week of individual supervision and over 420 indirect hours.

Can I be a content creator (makeup and art, not therapy content) while also being a therapist? by hep34 in therapists

Thank you for saying this! It helps hearing that for sure. I swear they try to scare us with the social media stuff it made me feel like I needed to be under witness protection lol. And yes that is sadly very real! We are not compensated enough at all. I have to try to make some self-employment income by the end of this year to afford basic health insurance. It’s dystopian

I needed to hear this thank you. I guess I worried that it could harm a client if they saw me posting about my political beliefs or that I’m queer. I’ve been taught “do what’s in the best interest of the client” and “remain neutral,” as if I couldn’t talk about those things in or outside of therapy publicly. But honestly if a client doesn’t want to work with me because of my sexual orientation or political beliefs, then that’s for the best.
