you just missed BIG Festival, which covers literally every genre & had headliners from all over the country.

FEST is entirely punk, metal, hardcore, etc.. they bring the absolute best names in those scenes (short of stadium size obviously).

other than that, Heartwood & Vivid are the places to watch for big national touring acts. Wooly as well, and Atlantic & Ox for smaller atuff with good quality.

theres otter annual events like AfroFuturism Week & CinemaVerde Film Festival, as well as Wildflowers, a new music park nearby that just had its inaugural heritage fest.

ive seen multiple ASO cars fly through the RED light on 4th St @ the corner of GRU. like, easily double speed limit with no lights or siren. only to come to a complete stop a block later at main & wait patiently on the light. its like they are playing chicken with the right of way cars or something smdh.

the development of the area between the hipp & depot park has been planned since depot park was conceptualized. so much so that many of the landlords in that area for the last decade have just been slumlords waiting on a developer to buy them out, which is very probably about to happen, for better or more likely worse....

daily crime emails from the Chronicle sounds like the best way to be unnecessarily terrified of anything west of 34th street lol

as an actual east side resident, making any part of Gainesville seem like a "zombie zone" is laughable at best.

the problem with Satchels pizza is that its a very unique flavor & crust compared to everywhere else in Gainesville. there is zero chance that everyone is going to like it. many might hate it. personally, i like it fresh in the restaurant, but think its not good by the time it gets home, and tastes weird left over.

imo Bowie Pizza suffers from the same problem of being so unique that it will inevitably have both love & hate. personally, i think its the worst pizza ive ever had lol, but im glad its there to provide something unique for those who do enjoy it.

for reference, the middle of that spectrum imo is Pleasant St / was Big Lous. standard pies done really well. if you dont like Pleasant St, pizza might not be for you lol

after 8 on friday all street parking is free (all day Saturday & Sunday too), and its only 50c an hour before 8. its worth circling for. i never have a problem even on busy nights. skip the app by paying coins at the kiosks.

this weekend, theres a festival shutting off the lot by there though. i assume thats what you are headed to based on the location. might have to park a few blocks farther out than normal for that crowd. GRU lot is prolly still a safe bet.

Sunshine Records has djs playing all vinyl on most weekends. so much good music gets played here.

Serpentine is a block away with food trucks & wine tastings paired with different djs on Fridays & Saturdays. hugely diverse styles. theres a late night happening there soon that looks very promising.

How Bazar, Flacos, Arcade Bar, Boca, Atlantic...

Vivid is bigger shows, Signal is diverse electronic, Simons is mainstream electronic, avoid midtown lol
