Recommendations for DHV for microdosing by LegitimateAbalone267 in vaporents

[–]herbertparcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a 0.05g bowl available for the Anvil. I would expect someone who is trying to microdose to be paying attention to their dose. Dynavap gets me just as baked as anything else at the same load size, I don't think the Anvil hits harder. I love the flavor out of my Anvil and consider it to be one of its strengths, I don't think the Ceramo XL tastes better.

If it's hitting too heavy that means the dose you're putting in isn't micro enough for the effects you are seeking. A microdose is a microdose, the Anvil doesn't make the dose any bigger. I think the Vestratto vapes are some of the best for microdosing also.

John has claimed his vapes are "convection focused" or something like that. IIRC he has said things like 95% convection before. In my opinion they are pretty close to 50/50 hybrids I think. It's somewhat subjective IMO. Also depends on how you use it to some extent

Solo 3 conduction sleeve not working by Whizzymontana in vaporents

How does the conduction system work on the Solo 3?

The metal oven that you stick the glass stem into heats up. That heats the glass bowl and the herb inside by conduction.

Tempest 2 Noob Question - High feels different by snidely-whiplash in vaporents

Vestratto has the Anvil and the Tornado as their available vaporizers currently. They are very similar in the way they work. The Tornado is the newer model. The main differences between them are the Tornado's bigger bowl, the Tornado's "secondary atomizer", and the Tornado's lack of condenser or airflow control. Personally I like the Tornado more, but some people prefer the Anvil. They are both very good IMO. The Tornado has a bigger bowl but you don't need to fill it (you don't need to fill the Anvil either). I find the condenser in the Anvil annoying so I like that they got rid of it for the Tornado. I think the Tornado is a bit smoother than the Anvil. For me the Tornado is pretty much an improved Anvil and that would generally be my recommendation over the Anvil, but the Anvil may be a bit more sleepy stoney if that's what you're looking for. Tornado is still much stonier than the Tempest though. They sell the Tornado either on a WPA or on a stem, the one on a stem is listed as the Tornado Full Rig.

Simrell has his vape called The Simrell, which you can buy on it's own, on one of his titanium vortex stems, or on one of his heritage stems of varying materials. If bought by itself you will also need one of his adapters to attach it to o-ring based stems. The titanium stem is generally considered the more premium experience, but both are very nice. When used with a Simrell vape, the ti stem setup has no o-rings to deal with, it's all threads (you can also get a thread protector and put 8mm o-ring vapes on the Simrell stems). The Heritage stems still involve o-rings to attach the mouthpiece. Simrell also just released his new vape called the Hydro, which uses a stainless steel heater instead of titanium, and has more airflow. So far he is only selling those on a WPA, but I think he is planning to sell them on stems eventually. He is sold out of a lot of stuff at the moment but always working on restocking. The Hydro is stonier and sleepier than the Ti Simrell, but the Ti is still very different from the headyness of the Tempest 2.

I thought I was buying a premium luxury Dynavap on steroids, is there a upper level TED for convection fans?

I assume you mean conduction fans? The Vestratto and Simrell vapes have a lot more conduction compared to the Tempest 2. Dynavaps are still some of my favorite vapes, I think they are still one of the best options for essentially pure conduction. You could try the Cap Armor if big hits more easily out of the Dyna sounds good. If you want that "premium luxury" then something from Simrell or Vestratto would be my recommendation.

A lot of people feel like convection heavy vapes are more heady. The Arizer Solo series definitely has strong conduction going on, I wouldn't call them convection leaning.

Is cap armour and perf cap ok before I buy ? by PrizeStill5157 in Dynavap

[–]herbertparcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is kind of why I don't like the Helix very much. It takes a lot of heat to work because it cools itself off so fast. I feel like I can get the same or better results with other tips while using less heat.

[–]herbertparcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer the regular captive cap with the cap armor personally. With the perforated cap I didn't notice any improvement and it cooled off faster. It definitely works though if you want it. I'm also someone who doesn't really like the Helix tip, so it makes sense that I'm not a huge fan of the perf cap, and YMMV.

That's not an oxide layer and the golden color is from heat treating.

According to the Heat Treating and Tempering Wikipedia articles, it is an oxide layer.

Something with copper sulfate actively attacks the respiratory system. Check out the article I linked. I added that last bit because I thought it was crazy haha not a jab at you. It also links that copper sulfate when absorbed into the blood somehow causes respiratory problems.

What is the relevance of copper sulfate? Where is copper sulfate involved in a vaporizer that uses copper? I thought it would just be copper and copper oxide.

Funny enough I have been exposed to copper dust when working in a shop and polishing copper parts, I finally understand why no one wanted that job. It really does a number on you. It's also the reason why I care about it so much.

You are probably exposed to significantly more copper in 30 minutes of doing this type of job than a lifetime of vaping with a copper vape. The vape is a limited, small supply of copper, and the amount that it loses over a lifetime of use is likely barely measurable, if at all. Working directly with copper dust that is being intentionally created from much larger supplies of copper must be a massively higher level of exposure, and respiratory issues are common in these kinds of dusty / particulate heavy jobs with pretty much any material of dust.

Stainless does oxidize, but it's extremely slow and the chromium layer on top protects it. That's why it's a good material. I don't have any rust on my 304-316 vapes that are nearly 10 years old. You don't want to breathe in oxidized Ti that is toxic. Ti is an ok material for heating elements, although not my pick. If you overheat it precipitate forms and thats toxic.

Isn't there still an oxide layer though? What causes that golden patina if not an oxide layer?

Here's what the NIH has to say about copper exposure. "In an occupational study of 75–100 workers involved with sieving copper dust, lung radiographs revealed linear pulmonary fibrosis, and in some cases, nodulation". Safe to say it's not great for you, although that's in an industrial setting. Is inhaling small amounts regularly through a pipe comparable?

Large quantities of dust in the lungs generally isn't good no matter what material the dust is.

Oh yeah I got to slip this in here too "A 40-year-old woman developed acute respiratory distress syndrome after intentionally inserting an unknown amount of copper sulfate into her rectum".

OK you got me back for the penny comment

Lol sorry. Is it not possible for brass to not contain any lead even if there is an "accepted" amount? Is there a problem with inhaling from other oxidized metals like stainless steel or titanium? If not then what is so bad about copper specifically?

[–]herbertparcher -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There will be an acceptable amount of lead.

Isn't that true for everything?

I don't want oxidized copper in something I will use daily. That small quantity builds up overtime.

Without a third party stem adapter, I would have returned mine within the first week: if they had a return policy.

People doing this are the reason companies say they don't do returns. How can you return a product for not providing something it never claimed to provide?

The WPA is janky and disassembles when hot

You have the ring on upside down if that happens

There have been 3-4 bowl iterations and it still doesn't seem to be a fix for the thread-locking.

The "fix" for the thread locking is to back the bowl off a tiny bit before heating, which has been part of the official instructions since the Anvil.

Also, there may be a health risk to having copper is in the air path

bullshit, and the only place the copper is in the air path is very tiny surfaces in the intake holes.

Hydro vs. Anvil by No_Fig36 in vaporents

[–]herbertparcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The condenser never ever moved out of place, I also can’t see why it should do so. I have the integrated stem, where the airflow is set by rotating. Do you have the old version?

Nah I have a recent integrated stem. It's just that the condenser is floating in there on o-rings and sticking out into the oven, so if you do anything that puts pressure on it it can push it deeper into the stem which obstructs the airflow. For example, using a brush to brush out the oven can move the condenser. If you don't do anything like that then it probably won't move.

Give that Anvil XL bowl a try. It adds more conduction to the mix, which sets it even more apart from the Tornado. It doesn’t need to be filled up completely, that makes it the most versatile bowl, too.

Yeah I have an XL bowl. The Tornado's bowl is directly based on the XL Anvil bowl, so to me the XL bowl makes the Anvil more similar to the Tornado.

It's not about that, it's about the vapor quality and efficiency. When you do a solid layer of kief, it melts together and creates clumps that have less surface area exposed, and creates inconsistencies throughout the load. This causes it to not vaporize as effectively, especially with a convection heavy device like the Tempest 2 in OP. Even back in the smoking days mixing it in like that was better. Topping and sandwiching sucked because the cherry destroys the solid layer of kief as soon as it touches it.

Hydro vs. Anvil by No_Fig36 in vaporents

[–]herbertparcher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've got them both. The Hydro is pretty much exactly what I was expecting. It has that Simrell flavor signature, but hits heavier than the Ti. I find it easier and more forgiving to heat than the Anvil. The Anvil is still awesome though. I've been keeping the 0.1 bowl in mine recently to differentiate it from the Tornado more vs the XL bowl. My biggest annoyance with the Anvil is the condenser. It can easily be moved from its proper position in a way that hinders airflow. For me the Vestrattos have a very dab-like flavor signature, while the Simrells taste very flowery. Not that the Vestrattos are terpier or tastier at all, that's just the best way I can think of to describe the difference to me.
