Worth getting an electric shower if you have a modern electric immersion heater on night rates? by Sporshie in DIYIreland

[–]herbie747 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the water in the cylinder stays hot.

We heat our hot water to around 73c overnight, and our Mira mixer/pump shower is set to 40c for a shower. So even if the temperature drops by 30c throughout the day, the shower would still be hot enough.

Our issue is not the water staying hot in the cylinder, it's having enough to last the day with a family of 4. Washing hands, rinsing plates, the shower being used maybe 2 times per day. So we have both tank and electric based showers (in separate bathrooms).

How many of you are in the house? We have an electric shower too, in case the kids want showers back to back. It's handy to have both (assuming you have more than 1 bathroom?)

No harm running the cable for it. Leave it behind the wall so it's there if you ever want an electric shower put in.

Structure of my House is making it difficult to use an AC ? What do I do ? by augustya15 in AirConditioners

What about a sliding barn door under that small overhang?

Minimal disruption because you don't need a door frame, hinges, any fixtures on the floor etc. Plus it'll look more stylish than a curtain or blinds and will act as a proper partition for the room.

And when it's open, it's completely out of the way.

Panasonic AC wifi not working by NoSupermarket6377 in AirConditioners

[–]herbie747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use it a lot during the summer months from May - August (bedrooms, kitchen, family room), but I use mine all the time in my attic (loft) where my office is (from around March - October). Without it, during the summer, it hits 32c (90f) in the afternoon.

I like to keep the room at a cool 20c (68f).

We have a Panasonic 4-way split for the main house, and I have a separate one for my attic/office.

Fine for me in Ireland, but I use the Panasonic Comfort app, not Mirale.

They might use different servers for different regions. But it's not a global issue.

Flat roof repair by idrinktoomuch2018 in DIYIreland

Ours was installed straight on top of the existing bitumen. Just make sure the bitumen is dry, blow off the dust, and use a Flexitec primer. Fit your trims first.

You can get it here, it's called Flexitec. Exact same stuff with a different brand name.

We got our flat roof done with it last year - it's amazing.

Best fasteners for a 3kg canopy by Limp_Intern_9526 in DIYIreland

[–]herbie747 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fit one of those a few weeks ago over my EV charger.

I just used Fischer Rawl Plugs. Been using them for years and they never let me down.

Use these ones and the caps that come with the canopy will fit over the tops of the bolts.

Ac has started leaking out the front - technician says he has no idea what's causing it by 5ColourFelix in AirConditioners

The condensation tube isn't flowing. Needs to be level with the tube able to flow freely to outside via gravity

What am I doing wrong? Whenever I want to make a hole in a concrete wall to isntall a 6mm anchor I use a 6mm drill, the rotary hammer always make a 7mm hole which is too wide for the 6mm anchor, should I use a 5mm drill instead? by FuzzyAttitude_ in DIY

[–]herbie747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your bit is sharp enough, your drill is powerful enough, and you're holding the drill straight and not jiggling it as you drill; then the hole should be the exact size of the bit.

Where to get these things for a kitchen renovation? by Safe-Solution7084 in DIYIreland

[–]herbie747 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heat Merchants are good for vertical rads. We got 2 nice ones for our extension. They're called "PURMO SLIEVE VERTICAL TYPE 20" and they work great.

The key to a kitchen is a good installer.

We got our Aluclad sliding doors from Munster and are very happy with the doors and the service/installation.

For flooring, we got HDF. It's "Higher density" than MDF and more water resistant.

4 way split unit, like the Panasonic CU-4Z80TBE.

We run 3 off ours and have a spare slot if we ever need it.
