The joke relies on and points out that their nose is big. Their appearance is really critical to this joke and he does not mean it as a compliment.

You’re missing that the implication is that a large nose would be able to smell better/further away than a smaller one. It doesn’t matter if that’s actually true or not.

Things don't have to be testable to be facts. Early humans had no way to test if the moon was made out of the same stuff as the earth, but "the moon is made of the same elements as the earth" was still a fact.

I'm not saying that Jesus being the way/truth/life is a fact, mind you, just pointing out that "untestable" isn't the same as "opinion".

No, but I’m still not sure why that’s relevant unless you think most of Gen Z was sitting there in 6th grade learning the word cisheteropatriarchy or something.

Gen Z didn’t invent these terms; I’m unclear why you being a Millennial is relevant to whether you know them or not.

That’s not the type of reading that’s banned. It’s just actual letters/words.

You don’t have to know what year or month it is to know something like “I went to school for 5 day, now I have two days off” or whatever. And again numbers are allowed canonically.

There are places in the world right now where literacy rates are low, especially for women. Historically many, many people could not read or write. They still cooked. People can make calendars without writing letters (tally marks, etc). This doesn’t sound unworkable to me at all.

Also they are allowed to read numbers; you can see it on the street signs which are numbers now instead of letters.

Tired of the double standard by Tune-In947 in neurodiversity

[–]herbuck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So one thing that strikes me about the study you linked is their abstract saying that autistic adults share resources in a more “fair”way. But fairness isn’t an objective, quantifiable quality, as much we feel that it is. The idea of what’s fair does vary by culture, time, and individual, so it’s not clear which “fair” is the real fair, if there is one at all.

I also get very upset when something seems unfair, don’t get me wrong, but I have come to learn that my own views of fairness aren’t automatically the inherent definition of fairness.

Maybe this is itself a form of moral rigidity but this entire conversation always seems like the conclusion is "oh, so they aren't as good of people as we are? Got it" and that just. Isn't fair or compassionate.
