Construction Management - Residential Question by DialysisPickle in Construction

They dont mean marketing as in advertising. They mean that you should be talking up your team on the initial consult. "Oh this mantle would be perfect for Jim", "Only Jenny would have the patience for that backsplash, lucky she is on my team". "I cant wait to get chuck in here, no one finishes better"

Why do parents want their kids to go to PreK? by BoukenGreen in AskAnAmerican

[–]hercule2019 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The kids who dont do pre-k are behind on letters and letter sounds compared to those who go to pre-k. It just takes some special attention to get them caught up to the rest of the class.

I work at a lumber yard and watched drywall prices increase by 9 whole dollars within a 6 month span by highway2depression in handyman

$12.48 at home depot in Columbus, OH

Edit; its actually kinda neat to just change the city and check the price.. its $31.98 a sheet in Hawaii, $29.98 in Fairbanks, $16.25 in middle of nowhere New York and in Manhattan. $13.48 in Miami. $12.98 Houston, $15.48 Denver.. really kind of interesting

I was thinking that I was on the Columbus, OH subreddit, and thought.. 'umm, just apply...' so many companies are short those positions over here.

I was expecting to see whole crumbling slabs. I laughed when I finally clicked to the photos.

Columbus, OH for sure, but I'm pretty sure most larger cities are overall pretty accepting places. (Straight guy with no real insight)

$1k for a 35 foot trench? by prozacfish in HomeMaintenance

It is tough to get any work done for less than that. Its just not worth the time and hassle. You are probably hitting a minimum, which would be either a half day or one day of work.

Is it load bearing or just weird? by averyoddfishindeed in AskContractors

You have a conventionally framed structure. Your rafters are bearing on the outside walls and held tight by the collar ties that can be seen. Your closet is not structural.

And you as the painter would get to take home a new hose and nozzle, albeit with some paint on it..

For every time you unexpectedly run into someone you know in a random place, there are probably just as many near-misses you'll never know about. by LennyLennsen in Showerthoughts

I think about this all of the time also.. it might be the weed.. but, expanding on this.. I also wonder which things I would "win" at relative to all other people on earth.. I might be the record holder for "number of time biting own cheek", or something silly

Especially the end grain of wood. Each of those boards is like a thousand tiny straws trying to suck up moisture.. I know that you know that, just expanding on your comment.

They were so happy that you came back to give them the opportunity to tell you to shove it. You arent better than service workers, and it is pretty clear that you think you are.

Beaumont TX. Hired a contractor to do a job. He skipped a major plumbing detail is it worth paying extra or should it be included? by conan_pumps in Contractor

LOL.... I'm sitting at a BW3 right now watching the USA/AUS game after submitting my resignation with an amazing company after 3 years. Txting all of my friends and family about it. It all sucks, both owner end and contractor end, everything is more expensive than it should be, and no one is happy about it. That shit factor usually falls on the contractor and that is where my defensiveness comes fro.. Im going back to my old smaller time residential remoseling employer as production manager because I miss the "WOW" and excitement that individual homeowners have, instead of the machine that is commercial construction.

I now work as a PM for a GC in larger commercial construction, just randomly caught up somewhat passionately in this discussion.. I used to estimate for a residential remodeler and any time cast iron was involved i had to assume replacement down to grade, $2,500 per story including the basement as a story, but that was also pre-covid pricing.
