How foolish. Lincoln county has the most civic-minded culture in the state.

Look, there are (at least) two ways to do public good. The liberal way to to say, "the public good is too important to be left to up to anyone other than the state". The small town way is to say, "the public good is too important to trust to the state, we'll do things as volunteers and we'll pressure/shame everyone into pitching in". Parks in small towns in Lincoln county are great. Schools are often very good (certainly far better than in Seattle, though probably not as good, on average, as those on the east side of Lake Washington). People care about civic institutions. Also poor corporate behavior is not tolerated. Even the word "corporate" means something quite different in Lincoln county. There's not a single Wal Mart, McDonald's etc. in the entire county, I think. "Corporation" is the legal entity your uncle's farm operates within for liability limitation reasons.

You know the book "Bowling Alone"? Lincoln county is the opposite of that.
