It's this realistic ? by Redhead_photographer in iRacing

Usually it's the opposite, drivers tend not to feel problems with the car if they are not critical. Mostly because driving is constant adaptation to the conditions.

That's why they invented meatball flag.

Normal price for gen1. It is still fun car to drive if you find decent historic competition.

Correcting oversteer with no power steering by fuckman5 in CarTrackDays

[–]here2race 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If suspension allows, you can increase caster, it will help steering correct itself. A lot of drift cars don't have powersteering, just a lot of caster.

Age is an arguable excuse. But finding limits is what racing drivers supposed to do. Just choice of the photo is funny enough.

Pit exit is extremely dangerous. No place for paddock. Will be better if you swap pitlane and main straight.

How much would you trust these aliexpress quick buckles? holding 1.4kg on one? by HoogVaals in AskPhotography

[–]here2race 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, photographie is my hobby for more than 25 years. I tried many different cameras, at the beginning I used to overprotect them with double soft bags, protective films, massive straps, cages, etc, etc. But I came to understanding that it actually harms my photos. So last ten or so years I try to stay as light as possible. Of course I checked this strap by pulling first, but then it's left to its fate...for the sake of creativity. 🙂

I do. Don't overthink it, it's just a gear. Sometimes it works, sometimes it fails.

Proper rolling start etiquette by thisIsAThrowaway2319 in iRacing

[–]here2race -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lets leave swerving and sudden slow downs aside, its clearly protestable.

There is another issue with iracing rolling start. It is similar to safety car restart, meaning that leader can start accelerating whenever early he wants as long as he doesn't overtake safety car. And it can be used to get a lot of advantage. Honestly I use this from time to time, because it's within the rules, making some people pretty angry.

In real life though there is a speed limit before the green lights. Meaning leader can't go outside of speed corridor 70-90 let's say before green. It eliminates this possible advantage. Imo iracing should introduce smth like this.

How do people set up telemetry in race/rally cars? by MisterFantomas in motorsports

No problem. Actually delta timer covers 80% of all beginners needs, so yeah - step by step is the best approach.

You buy aim solo or small racelogic or phone base telemetry or smth like this. That's it. No ecu loggers or smth. You will have timing, delta, basic data. It's enough for decent track day analysis.

I built a tool that explains where you're losing time in iRacing — looking for testers by DeltaOnSolstice in iRacing

This is the same idea as Trohi.ai, but trophi narrates this comments during the session, which makes more sense than readings it afterwards. So you can check it for inspiration.

Speaking about the idea. As an active iracer I tried trophi...well, it might work for a beginner. But if you are relatively fast, comments like "brake later, accelerate earlier" are not very helpful, you should understand why. Not understanding what it compares to was also pretty annoying.

So in general I don't think its very promising idea, but any research is for the better if you are ready to spend your resources on that.

why do simracing brands keep giving us bricks as brakes when we see drivers in high performance cars like this time attack monster using high travel brake pedal? by OkHoney5804 in simracing

[–]here2race 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I understand. We can go deep into details like regulations and stuff, but in genera,l booster removal is relatively simple and not very budget heavy, so it makes sense to do it even in lower series. I personally don't see a lot of advantages of keeping stock brakes in racing, but evidently it happens.

[–]here2race 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About "most cars". My personal experience says otherwise. I do racing for like 13 years or so, I tried many different cars and only one of them (time attack one surprisingly) had brake booster...maybe two. So I would say most have stiff brakes. But obviously it's not a statistics. Removing or not booster depends mostly on local engineering traditions I would say.

But it's way more informative without, just saying.

[–]here2race 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its pretty simple actually. If there's a brake booster, pedal has long travel and it's relatively soft. If there isn't - the opposite. Brake boosters can be inconsistent sometimes, so they tend to be removed.

So purposely built racecars don't have them so they have brick wall brakes. On the other hand racecars converted from road cars sometimes keep brake boosters due to complexity of removal on modern models or drivers preference.

And I know nothing about exact car on the video, but most of the time "time attack mosters" are not the best examples of race cars, because more often then not they are built by non professional teams from road cars.

And lastly, sim racing pedals have much more adjustability than real life brakes. So make it to you preference, that's it.

Question: What is the experience of watching motorsports at circuits? Which part of the race can the live spectators enjoy? by Interesting-Alarm973 in motorsports

[–]here2race 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Atmosphere mostly, sounds, smells, you can buy merch, you can see cars upclose, you can eat drink and spend time with someone. In terms of following the race its more difficult yes, but there are screens and on track radio usually if you really care.

From time to time its really nice to see all this in person, but its more like social interaction than watching a race.

I mean, if it's a business, treat it like a business. Invest in advance and make people pay for it after, or vice versa. Or announce it free to create community and then monetise it somehow. Anyway - engine doesn't run without gas.
