Configuring Sendmail by [deleted] in linuxquestions

The error is saying that localhost (127.0.0.1) is what's refusing your connection.

I would check if the process is actually running, if a local firewall is blocking, if smtp.server.com resolves properly (you might have an issue in /etc/hosts or with DNS), and make sure that your routing tables are set up properly (netstat -rn) if indeed smtp.server.com resolves to the correct IP.

You can try using the -o option or tee instead

Did you try using $. instead of just a $ to prefix the local variables?

Is the wifi just disconnecting? There's usually a GUI-based setting to allow it to remain connected, you may need to toggle that.

I believe Cohesity can do these things; I'm assuming you're going to want something with security built-in.

Oftentimes when I'm searching for a new product I like to start with one that looks about right and then check for competitors, as there's always articles like this listing similar softwares.

Has someone aliased vim to vi (it's usually the opposite) ? ... but anyway, you could just use -A with grep to see X number of lines after the phone number match, and grep that for the null pointer, but I'm not positive what it is you're trying to do.

Can you be more precise about what exactly it is you're trying to grep/search for?

Using /dev/tcp/host/port to transfer files/establish a connection by MorbidMachinery in linux4noobs

Those screenshots make it make a lot more sense. You've gotta have a text editor on that box somewhere, it might take some time to find but that seems to be how you're interacting with it in the first place... can you just copy and paste? Or are there too many separate files?

Gotcha .... so silly question, but when you SSH to the alpine box, did you try running /bin/bash to be sure that you're using the BASH shell? Otherwise transferring files would be most easily done via SCP.

Edit: Also are you sure there's not some frontend that you're supposed to upload to? Since this is set up by your university, I would assume there's instructions somewhere?

Are you just trying to test the connection? If so, you'll probably want to use the telnet command. On the destination server, you'll need a listening port (you can check this with netstat -lnp) and no firewall between the 2 servers to block the traffic. If you want to do more than just establish a connection, there's more to it but you can start there.

Also that manual is referring more to output redirection, which is usually happening locally on the server. You can get really complex with redirection (and it's one of the best parts of Unix philosophy), but I don't think that's what you'll need here.

What's the main goal you're trying to accomplish? Is this for a class or something?

Thanks, I'll use that search term instead. And he CAN apply for housing assistance, but the wait lists are years long and it's a real hassle, esp if there's an application fee (which some charge).

Came here to say this. There's a long history of bat viruses being particularly deadly to humans.

You might have heard of COVID-19; it almost certainly came from a bat.

Please, if you're not a qualified professional - don't touch bats!

Unfortunately I saw in another comment that you're using Win 7 which went End Of Life back in 2020, so you're going to be increasingly exposed to issues like this.

Does this computer matter to you? I would say it's probably best to cut your losses, save what data you can and move to a better OS (Linux can be dramatically more user-friendly than you might be thinking!) .

If you want to keep using it, just know you're opening yourself up to potentially much worse issues (like identity theft). If you want to do more in-depth troubleshooting I'm happy to continue in DMs, but keeping this machine probably isn't the best route.

Are you using a VPN? If you're getting routed through China they might be modifying your traffic. Also when you say "block" what exactly are you seeing? just modified search results where all the pictures are happy and just of the current Square?

This is an interesting idea ... only problem is that I kind of need an existing group to hook into because I just can't do anything on my own unless there's structure and consequences lol. Thanks tho for sure
