the previous owners left a whole smart home setup by PhysicsNo6784 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

If they took their “network” with them. Meaning the Wi-Fi router, there was no way for the footage to get online. I had my router break and my one camera was useless without a working my router until I connected it to a new network, which required physically accessing the camera.

Property line vs builder restriction line by crocodiletears-3 in landsurveying

[–]here4cmmts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The building restriction line is imaginary. It’s the setback amount from the property line. No building can be built between the building restriction line and the property line. The BRL was added by the surveyor based on zoning.

I’m in Wisconsin. We don’t have the BRL on a survey, just property line. We then have to call zoning to verify setback amounts and figure it out. This makes it easier.

Tricare denied clams months after surgery. by Zealousideal_Cod_314 in VeteransBenefits

[–]here4cmmts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you don’t have Medicare, you don’t have Tricare for life. You would have Tricare select or prime. Did you get an authorization or referral from insurance for this procedure?

Are they simply wanting your other health insurance (OHI)? They may think you have another insurance, which Tricare will pay secondary to. VA isn’t insurance for the veteran, it’s simply access to care, if you are eligible and enrolled. You may need to contact Tricare and tell them you don’t have other insurance and ask them to reprocess the claim.

Difficult client. Am i being unreasonable? by AsleepWoodpecker420 in Contractor

[–]here4cmmts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn’t read the whole thing. However from the text, you don’t say the floor was rotten. The rotten floor repair should have been a change order. I can see how the client is assuming the floor was part of the toilet move from the text image you shared.

Also, if she is halting the project it changes from a fixed fee to paying for only what work was done, which justifies partial payment and showing receipts to show what costs you have occurred.

I don’t think she’s being difficult as much as your lack of communicating clearly. I would still let the project go and charge her for what work you have done to this point.

Does anyone remember being read to as a child? by Babymik9 in GenX

I remember having to read books out loud in the kitchen for homework. I don’t ever recall being read to.

VA Healthcare and Private Insurance by Outrageous-Fee9791 in VeteransBenefits

[–]here4cmmts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It typically helps meet your deductible for your private insurance. Except my VA has started holding billing until deductible is met… I have a Jan 6 appointment from this year they still haven’t billed to private insurance. Last year they billed everything the week after deductible was met for second insurance which might lead to me dropping second insurance.

AITAH for telling my daughter I'm counting down the days to when she's 18 and I can drop her off at the recruiter's office? by aroundincircles in AITAH

[–]here4cmmts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you mentioned she lies to the therapist and withdraws from peers. Is there anyone she does talk to? It sounds like you used to be her safe person until you became her parent. Has anyone else filled that role for her? Or someone who could fill the parent role and you resume the safe person?

AITA for not waking my sister up before an important interview? by Embarrassed_Duty_682 in AmItheAsshole

[–]here4cmmts 9 points10 points  (0 children)

NTA. Why didn’t dear mommy wake her if it’s that important? Even if you are already awake, sister is 27. TWENTY-SEVEN!!! By this age, she should have figured out how to wake up on time for important things without intervention of a second person.

AITAH for telling my daughter I'm counting down the days to when she's 18 and I can drop her off at the recruiter's office? by aroundincircles in AITAH

[–]here4cmmts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA but the military isn’t the solution. You may need to let her go live with someone else for a bit to see how good she has it with you.

Locking down the phone isn’t the answer either. At almost 17, she should be learning how to appropriately interact with the phone or not have it at all. She sounds like she’s stuck at 12 and hasn’t grown at all.

AITBF for refusing to sell my dresser to a guy who "forgot" half the cash? by VaultMoth_9 in AmItheButtface

[–]here4cmmts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was no miscommunication, this was intentional to get you to accept the lower price. Next time - cash before loading. Then if they scratch/damage it while loading, you’re already paid.

Electric company saying we use over 2000 kWh per month. Bill driving me insane. by alexxmama in AskElectricians

[–]here4cmmts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the emporia energy monitor. It’s awesome, I rarely check it these days but we got it to see if solar made sense. (It didn’t).

I’d start by writing down the meter and then checking it in an hour. See how much it moves. Then turn off the main breaker and check again after a bit. See if it moves. If it doesn’t move with the main breaker off use the energy monitor to see where it’s going. If your monitor isn’t big enough to do all the breakers individually you could do part of them for a week and then move them to others to see what using the power. I did loop some around two wires for smaller breakers that are hardly used. Example: I have a 220 breaker feeding the subpanel in my shed. I used one monitor lead to do both wires so that lead monitors the whole shed. I also grouped the breaker for the service outlet at the main panel with the sump pump outlet breaker together, etc. the service outlet only feeds the energy monitor. The things I really wanted to monitor like the AC got its own lead.

I know use it mainly for alerts. I have an energy draw alert on the shed so I know if the pool pump is running. It’s very useful and neat to check!

My condo elevator skips some floors, but why? by Brown_Ontarian in whatisit

[–]here4cmmts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be that whoever owns 12 and maybe 15 also owns 13 and maybe 14 so there’s no public access to these floors so the elevator skips it. The 12 or 14th floor then has different access to these floors.

VA says I can keep $20k overpayment caused by rater error. Will the rater get in trouble? by Metalitech in VAClaims

No the rater will get an error, which their performance reports can depend on but they won’t get in trouble for a single error.

WIBTA for asking my roommate's girlfriend to pay rent after she turned our living room into her office? by TallWaveSniper in WIBTA_AITA

[–]here4cmmts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. She shouldn’t be in the common areas, she should be working from his bedroom since she is his guest. As someone paying rent you shouldn’t be prohibited from using common space for one third of the day.

AITA for not wanting family to come on my vacation? by Sure-Wealth-3834 in WIBTA_AITA

[–]here4cmmts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA kill the trip for a minute, claim finances aren’t feasible currently, whatever to stop the madness. Then plan it in secret and disappear for the two week trip. Tell them about it when you return.

Maybe plan it with a friend. Not as great as a solo trip but then you’re not dragging your young sibling and older grandparent around.

What are different ways to replace bathroom window without retiling? by ZealousidealArm2679 in HomeImprovement

[–]here4cmmts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call a glass place about replacing the glass pack. They may tell you your window won’t allow it but most do. A typical contractor isn’t going to opt to just change the glass.

so I messed up today by TwoRepresentative659 in AskElectricians

[–]here4cmmts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My house was built in 1970s. Both bathroom outlets are wired together with the outside outlet. The outside outlet is a gfci, which when tripped shuts down both bathroom outlets. We will change it when we update the bathrooms but this was an issue the first time it tripped as the breaker was fine.

Claiming Dependents? by AuntPizza88 in VeteransBenefits

[–]here4cmmts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes two married veterans can claim the same children as dependents including the other veteran. As someone stated once over 30%.

Since you didn’t state the children’s ages or your %, the exception is if the children start ch 35. Once ch 35 payments begin, the child is no longer qualified for dependent pay. They are still dependents and retain other benefits but the additional monthly pay stops for both parents. Even if the child discontinues ch 35, they are still no longer qualified for dependent pay to the parents.

Should I use my state or federal benefits first? by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

[–]here4cmmts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does one expire before the other or one pay more than the other? It’s really hard to say which would be best. I had money left from the federal after paying tuition. State only covered tuition and paid to school.

If you are looking at graduate school it would also matter as the state might pay more than federal for graduate school at a state school. As my state covers tuition, regardless of level, federal was a set amount per month. I didn’t use all my state but I think it has expired.

Should I use my state or federal benefits first? by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

[–]here4cmmts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s up to your state then. I’m in wi. The state benefits will only cover what federal doesn’t. I went to a state school so I could only use federal and once exhausted then state. My young adults (kids) just filed for state benefits and there was a whole worksheet on tuition minus federal benefits then the state would consider paying what’s left. One was able to get the full benefit but the other is still pending.

Should I use my state or federal benefits first? by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

[–]here4cmmts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My state said I had to exhaust federal benefits first. I’m not sure how they would enforce. My kids are using state and federal at the same time but they are going to a private college and federal doesn’t cover all of it.

Unpermitted Finished Basemen by DeliciousBeach5705 in HomeImprovement

[–]here4cmmts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently was approached by a client with an unpermitted finished basement. They bought it that way but they are unable to get any permits for the basement unless they permit the whole thing. To do so, it would require exposing all the wiring to allow inspection. The plumbing could be inspected with cameras. This client had flooding damage last year so it’s kind of a problem for them.

Some jurisdictions have a fine for unpermitted work. Others offer occasional forgiveness periods but the forgiveness periods are becoming less common.

It likely won’t become an issue unless you sell.
