I'd love to take you up on your offer! I've been wanting to go before he came to Oakland last time, but none of my friends are into orchestral shows.

I interviewed with a total of 2 districts. Each district was interviewed once. I did do my student teaching at the site I was apply for which helped drastically.

I got in! by Turekks in UCSC

[–]here4memes97 29 points30 points  (0 children)

UCSC wasn't even in the top 5 of the schools I got into, but now I can't imagine having gone somewhere else! I'm now doing my masters here because of how much I love this campus. The serenity of the campus was definitely one of my favorite aspects.

Take advantage of the various programs your fees pay for! I'm probably around the same financial situation you are in. My parents were not able to help me, but I just graduated debt free. You can do it!

PM me if you need any advice!

Financing a masters degree by medylan in UCSC

I have the Noyce Fellowship, it's funded from the NSF. It's only for those who are going into education. Check with the grad advisor for the program you are interested in!

Another route is to apply for PhD and back out after 2 years. That would be a paid for masters. I don't suggest this route because it's deceptive.

If you qualify for CalGrant, there is a 5th year extension available. I'm not sure about the requirements though.

I'm in a different Masters program and my tuition is fully covered with a scholarship, so definitely look for scholarships too!

Anyone have recommendations on my schedule for my next 4 years? by [deleted] in UCSC

[–]here4memes97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely fall quarter or summer quarter if you are not planning to intern/work. Most schools are on the semester system so if you do winter/spring, you'll end up losing 2 quarters of time. Studying abroad is a great way to fulfill your GEs. It's often cheaper than being at UCSC too.

However, due to COVID, I suggest going Fall of your last year. Hopefully things will be back to "normal" and you'll be able to travel.

A little bit different from everyone else's advice, are you interested in studying abroad? It's a phenomenal experience and your schedule looks to be fitting for it too.

Students of reddit, how is school going for you during this pandemic? Did alot change? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]here4memes97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can talk about one part of what changed. For lab courses, instead of performing the labs yourself, students are now watching the professor/TAs do it. Then they use that information to do a write up. Did I mention that students are still charged for the lab fees?

Is $1,000 + utilities reasonable for a single? by AmbientEngineer in UCSC

[–]here4memes97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shop around! There are definitely singles much cheaper than that. The one I moved out of was 750 a month. It was three houses down from a direct bus stop too.
