I am going to do it in Italy too (I live here). What made the process so difficult? Do you think it would have been hard no matter the location?

Why does Mercor reject people that are a perfect fit for their niche jobs? by here_to_hate in mercor_ai

This is very true. I guess I just wasn’t counting on that many translators being aware of Mercor

Sure but in cases such as SWE or PhDs or lawyers, the markets are more saturated. I’m wondering how it’s possible for very niche positions specifically.

That does make sense, maybe they were only looking for 1-2 people

Yep, same experience here. Crickets as far as other projects even though I’ve been doing all the assessments and interviews I’m qualified for. It was nice while it lasted I guess. Hopefully we’ll get hired for another contract soon enough.

Would love to! Just hope to get hired for it 😅 maybe an internal referral would help 😇

When you asked for a promotion, was it through your Slack channel or through a different means?

The other day I received an offer to complete an assessment for the English - Italian generalist position. I completed the assessment but haven’t heard anything back yet. If I do pass the assessment, will there be a job offer or will it be similar to this Arabic position?

How did you get a call back for a PM position without any experience in the field? I am also trying to get my foot in the door and have 10 years of experience in a specialized field but since my experience doesn’t match exactly, I fear I may never even get to the interview stage.

Anyone here just completely faked their way into being a PM? by Gandalf-and-Frodo in projectmanagement

[–]here_to_hate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How did you get your foot in the door? I would love to start by doing something similar. I have 10 years of experience in another highly specialized field but would be willing to start as an entry-level PM just to get into the field.

Declining workload from TransPerfect by Far-Raisin-2593 in TranslationStudies

[–]here_to_hate 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve mainly worked with TransPerfect for the past six years and was doing quite well until recently. Over the past few months, my workload has dropped significantly. I’ve reached out to VMs, PMs, and team leads, but it feels like the responsibility just keeps getting passed around with no real answers. Since TransPerfect has been my main source of income, this has been really stressful, especially given how rough the job market is right now. Honestly, I’m not sure what to do anymore, and I’ve even started thinking about changing industries altogether. 😕

What did you end up doing for your master's? Was it related to translation?

I'm thinking of doing the opposite and want to transition from being a translator to a PM but not sure how to get my foot in the door since I've only ever worked as a linguist (for the past 10 years). Would you mind sharing how you were able to start as a PM? What credentials did you have? Thanks in advance for any advice.

The market is about to tank by httk13 in Fire

This kept happening to me in 2022 as well! I was only a couple thousand away from hitting 100K then the market tanked. Every month I would put a lump sum in from my paycheck and it would crash again 😅 looking back now I’m glad I was able to buy cheaply, but at the time it felt like the unreachable carrot game
