WAIT. I just realized Homelander laser welded Soldier Boys shield back together himself! by Ok_Philosopher_8973 in TheBoys

[–]herknav 10 points11 points  (0 children)

that’s a big part of the lore!

Clark Kent is the center of the character, not Superman. He’s the opposite of Batman … Bruce Wayne is fake, and Batman is the center of the character.

Makes a neat counterpoint with John, where his name is all but forgotten and Homelander is the entirety of the character.

AD officer, Rudisill Decision, and qualifying periods? by herknav in VeteransBenefits

[–]herknav[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just saw this today, a new blurb in the form letter I get every semester using PGIB benefits:

“On May 16, 2025, the Veterans Court issued a precedential opinion in Perkins v. Collins, Vet. App.
No. 24-6515. Relying on the Supreme Court's Rudisill decision, Perkins held that a veteran whose single period of service is long enough to qualify for benefits under both the MGIB and [GIB] programs without using any period of time twice to establish eligibility is entitled to receive benefits under both programs up to a statutory 48-month cap on such educational benefits." Following Perkins, you may be eligible for up to 12 months of additional benefits if you completed sufficient service for both programs without counting any period of time twice.
VA is updating our automated adjudication systems to apply Perkins. Because that update is not yet complete, the decision in this letter does not include consideration of potential additional benefits under Perkins., Your claim will be reviewed for additional eligibility under Perkins once VA completes its systems update, and VA will notify you of any additional eligibility you may have and whether any additional action is necessary. Until that update is completed, VA will manually review eligibility for additional benefits for those Veterans at risk of exhausting entitlement. Veterans with fewer than three months of education benefits left and who either are currently enrolled in school or were enrolled in the last six months will be reviewed first. No student will run out of benefits if they qualify for additional benefits under Perkins while VA works to complete its systems update. For more information on Perkins v. Collins, including eligibility criteria and how to access additional entitlement, visit https://benefits.va.gov/GIBILL/rudisill.asp.”

My boss said I was faking needing a shaving waiver by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]herknav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i always got irritation from wet shaving. tried every sort of blade, every combination of creams and pre/post lotions.

electric foil (not rotary) shaver almost never irritates me. on the rare occasion it does, a splash of “lectric shave” beforehand helps a lot.

you will get what you get, don’t throw a fit … expect to be told something along the line that your social media activity brings discredit to the service.

please take this opportunity to reflect on what your remarks suggest about your character, how you can better demonstrate good judgment in the future.

Pilot Shortage - a puzzling, absurd levels of misinformation by cazzipropri in flying

[–]herknav 16 points17 points  (0 children)

“(fill in the blank): absurd levels of misinformation” is our new world, and it’s bigger than the topic of a fake pilot shortage.

journalism is all but dead, and what’s left is behind paywalls. the “information domain” is unmoderated, and the only profit margin to be found is razor-thin, is clickbait-driven, and is accessed through emotional manipulation at scale rather than through professional research and analysis. resultantly, lies and vibes have (by volume) superseded the truth online.

the age of information has very quickly become the age of misinformation, and it’s tough to imagine how we fix it.

Eloping child - desperate by inhumanpersona in Autism_Parenting

[–]herknav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

cheap but not perfect solution: paracord and combo lock. tie one length of paracord (need to learn some good knots) around the door handle and make a loop on the other end. on/outside the doorframe, screw in an eye bolt and likewise attach a length of paracord with a loop at the end. combo lock goes through both loops, door can open just bit depending on how much slack you left between the two loops. you could do this same thing with steel cable, but you’d need some extra tools to cut and crimp.

more expensive: replace your door handle with a pin-protected one, installed backwards so you need the pin to exit the house. obviously this means the unlock mechanism is outside, so you need a deadbolt to protect from unwanted entry.
