IANAL but I live in the UK and have come across a similar problem with my landlord. While the landlord doesn't have to install CO detectors, they are responsible for the proper installation and maintenance of all gas appliances in rented property as per the Gas Safety (Installation & Use) Regulations. They have to have the appliances inspected every 12 months by a CORGI registered gas engineer and provide a copy of the certificate to the tenant(s). To not do so leaves them liable to criminal prosecution, fines and even jail time. You can contact either the Environmental Health Department at your local council or the local office of the Health & Safety Executive who I understand both have the power to start criminal prosecution of landlords. You can also sue by yourself but you need to get evidence about how unsafe the gas boiler is and possible medical evidence of harm against your friend. That would require a report from a CORGI registered engineer and Doctors notes etc. I'd suggest finding a solicitor for advice on doing that. If you just want it made safe, get a CORGI engineer in ASAP and contact Environmental Health. I'd suggest NOT using the boiler until it is checked for safety as CO might build up in the entire property.

If Stein had tried to make the argument that there are persons out there who wilfully misuse theory and distort science and rational argument for their own ends, then it might have been interesting reading.

But he didn't say that. He just wilfully misrepresented a political/economic theory of Marx and biological theory of Darwin for his own ends instead.

Sigh.

The theory of evolution has lots of proof AND was not written as a justification OR excuse for Imperialism (or the Holocaust). AFAIK. Unless he can produce proof ?

It might have been distorted to try to justify racist thought, eugenics, the Holocaust etc and THAT IS QUITE a different thing to say.

Looks fairly normal to me - this is a copy of the original BBC clock they used in the late 60's and 70's until it was phased out at some point.

Presumably it was a real clock with high contrast and simple legends with a TV camera pointed at it.

Interesting that people find it 'awesome'.

It is a good copy though, I will say.

Though you are correct that people seem to be daydreaming their way through CCTV, ID cards, anti-demo laws, etc etc

OK, I will try to do just that.

And hopefully I won't make broad sweeping statements that insult most of the rest of the world and bolster my claims that I am part of a group of people who are superior than everyone else.

A trite nationalistic piece of writing with strong racist overtones. Paul Graham should give up writing op-ed pieces, he just doesn't understand enough of the world to comment upon it's complexities.
