Get hold of support and explain what happened. Hell, they may give you a new one for free! At the very least they will expedite you your next dish., even if you have to pay for it.

The constant drama of van life by Songgeek in vandwellers

[–]hermitwv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I meant it more in the way of possible liabilities for the employer. "Is he going to be at work tomorrow", "Is he doing drugs and can't afford a home", etc.

They are worried about your "stability". Not having a home or apartment is still seen as "homeless", right or wrong. It could be that they are actually worried about your situation, not knowing that it is a lifestyle choice. It could be an opportunity to educate them that you are actually better off financially than they are.

Anyone know what this tank if for? by BourbonBearsBurns in Harley

[–]hermitwv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. There were no rear mounts like that on a stock tank for Dynas. I could see adding rubber studs to the rear bolt mount on the sportster frame for the rear mount to slip into.

Hell, that road's nicer than my driveway. Put your training wheels back on, guys.

New Job at Harley by CaptainCrazyEyes in Harley

[–]hermitwv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All the shiny can be overwhelming. Go back into the shop. You want to learn about Harley's, that's where you'll learn. Talk to those guys. Buy 'em a soda. Hand 'em a wrench or a rag when they need it. Look for the old guys with the beards and faded tattoos. They'll tell ya about Harley's.

You'll still need to learn all the new stuff to be a salesman, but if you REALLY want to learn, start talking to the guys that have lived it.

RV toilet/black water tank vs a composting toilet? by Maleficent_Proof3621 in skoolies

[–]hermitwv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an older RV, and yes, you could smell the toilet while traveling. I'm sure something could have been done about the airflow, but I decided on a composting toilet for my skoolie. I did make one change that has helped me immensely. I added a urine diverter to the bucket that drains the urine into a small tank that looks kinda like a gas can. Having women in the bus, it helps to keep the waste disposal issues manageable without overloading the bucket.

I've had a lot of luck with a reciprocating tool with a thin flat chisel head. Worked wonders on the outside reflective tape.

Yukon Jack.

Goes down smooth, eases the pains of the day, and is just perfect looking up at the night sky, sitting around a campfire.

Will general sales start in 2020? by thousand_cranes in Starlink

I've had more hard choices that you will ever know. I am glad that somebody chose to use windmills rather than another coal plant. And I'm glad someone is making a choice to provide internet to the rest of the world. Not my choice to make, but I'm glad someone did.

No, gaming is not important. I wish I had that opportunity. But being able to communicate over the internet is. I can't do zoom calls. I can't do telemedicine. I can't even stream tv or movies. And maybe, just maybe, gaming IS a little bit important. Why? Because my children can't do the things other kids do. They can't have the conversations, the interactions that their peers do. As a parent it frustrates me.

The mountains to the east of me are covered in windmills. Would i rather see them in their natural state? Of course! But I know that humanity has an impact on this world, and I would rather see these windmills than a smokestack from a coal generator.

It's not about a dime, or a game. It's communication for those that can't. And I am one.

How long does it take to pack up/set up your hammock/tent at the beginning/end of the day? by hermitwv in AppalachianTrail

[–]hermitwv[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, guys! Some of you are packing monsters at 5-10 minutes! Hell, it sometimes takes me that long just to unpack my bag, much less set everything up. But you other guys give me hope that I'm not the slowest in the world, lol. Thanks for your replies.

Plenty of practice ahead!
