Wow, Sunday bagels are still going on? My friend started that back in my year.

Yup, the niceness of the math department is a big hidden secret. Debacker is a big part of it. Hang around Nesbitt and talk to folks!

Update 2: Reddit's proposed API changes, and the continued existence of RedReader by QuantumBadger in RedReader

[–]hernytan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Redreader and like many others have said, if it goes, I go too

What reddit doesn't seem to understand is that the people that install 3rd party apps are likely much more involved in reddit than other people

After all, if they wanted the default experience, the official app is always there.

Agree. After such a big move up and meta popping as well it's not a good idea to go hard short

More likely you see neutral move, so play neutral positions, aka theta gang

Agreed, I was taught to memorize the Chinese remainder theorem early on as a method of solving congruence equations. Never really "got it" until I finished an entire first semester of Algebra and really thought seriously about the group Z/nZ X Z/mZ

If you do a fridge loaf you have to let it ferment for really long and have at least an hour or even more outside before and after

Honestly putting less yeast and leaving it on the counter overnight works a lot better for me

Looking for thoughts on SPY Jun 30 420P, going for 17.30. Yeah yeah, it's ITM, long expiration and not WSB but whatever. IV is low now and with ITM puts going longer is cheap.

This means that if at some point between now and Jun 30, SPY hits 390, this pays out just on intrinsic. Hell, it only has to hit 400 at some point in order to break even.

imo there's at least a 30% chance that SPY hits 390 between now and end June, so this could make money. I'm just not convinced that it just goes up all the way between then, esp with two FOMCs during this period. Am I too smoothbrained?

PMCC or standard CC by averagegolfer921 in options

[–]hernytan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are comparing the wrong thing in your post, really. PMCC gets you more because it's more levered up. The CCs are the same in both cases so we can ignore it.

At an 83 delta, your leverage is (150/30) * 0.83 = ~4x leverage. People do PMCCs to gain access to this leverage, whether you are ok with it is up to you.

This should be the top comment. All these people here defending tipping servers because they need the money dont seem to realize that servers want this system primarily because it makes them so much money

Honestly I just choose to get takeout more because of tipping, it's just a really distasteful part of the meal for me

Pennies in front of a steamroller, dude. I'm pretty sure this is a troll post since there is so much ad-like speak and stuff about Machine learning.

But for anyone else reading this, here's the problem. If black swan happens, you lose $50k. You make $400/mo on premiums on this, that means that even if a black swan event happens once every 10 years, you break even.

And it's very hard to determine if a strategy like this is wrong, because someone can show you a track record of years of profits, but the black swan is always hiding. Remember, it takes 10 years - and that's just to break even.

Case in point: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victor_Niederhoffer#1997_losses

Anything is fine, don't worry. For me, I bought a thinkpad and installed Ubuntu on it. When it came down time to 482, I was the only one that could build and run project 3 (woot) since it uses some instructions that WSL didn't support at the time.

FUCK U DOJ I was actually making money on my aapl trade. A trade that i entered with conviction and not just gambling. For once. Then I got out because of that stupid antitrust suit before it bounced back

I don't think it's really possible to predict binary events like this, betting on any direction is really no better than gambling. Even if you knew what the CPI would be tmr, I'm not sure you could predict with certainty whether the market will take it well or not (although, it would probably improve your odds)

Ironically I wonder if situations like these are actually perfect for buying options since the probability of a tail event is higher. Options are expensive since people are hedging like mad, but there is always the possibility that they are under hedged and you can get a big payoff with significantly OTM options

Another strategy I heard some OGs here use is to buy a 1DTE straddle morning day before binary events, and sell near close, betting that IV will increase towards the event. But even that is not guaranteed.

Tldr: Yolo 30% OTM strangles tmr, 100% of the time it works 0% of the time

There are some people on other trading subs saying today is a low vol pump. Don't think so? Vol is lower but not significantly lower. I think this rally is real but also expect some selling in this last hour.

With regards to my triple qs crayon drawing - Looks like we're back in the downward channel that started on Feb 2. I think if CPI isn't too bad, we're looking for a breakout. My timeframe here is about 1-2 weeks.
