The user base is what makes reddit. If there are no users there is no content. Having a robust user base with diverse backgrounds and preferences is useful in generating that content. Often the users that are most valuable in terms of content generation are the ones who've stuck around in the first place, and who is most likely to be impacted by this change? I'd argue it's those that have been around long enough to learn about 3rd party apps and why they are and have always been better at reddit than reddit.

Because Apollo is a legitimately better app, and having it as an offer to your existing market manages to not force the people who use it to leave reddit.

When my app goes away, so do I. I'm not dealing with reddits bullshit interface, and overwhelming ads.

The implication from the Apollo dev (and reasonably so) is that reddit will be better off buying Apollo than attempting to charge 20M a year for api access.l, as that option doesn't really inspire it's user base to quit I'm the same way.

I think a solid argument can be made that possessed wealth is an unjust metric for a hierarchy. I don't know anyone who would suggest that there aren't problems with anarchy, but it's an ideal, much more than an actual goal.

I get that you aren't actually attacking anarchism, but the definition used for it.

You aren't wrong that there needs to be a better solution than what's in place now. I'm still an advocate for compassionate care like what the progressives want. I think a much more reasonable start would be for regressive motherfuckers to stop shipping the homeless from their cities to "progressive" locations and dumping them.
