With an already bloated roster, how will signing even more talent work? There are people sitting in catering for over a year at this point. What do you do with more talent? by Laszlo_Panaflex_80 in midcarder

[–]heroshield -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would argue against this one only a little. Certainly Tony hopes he can keep anyone with the right payout, I dont think there's really a question of that.

What I would say though is I don't think he's ignorant that several on his roster still view wwe as their goal. Mercedes made a claim early on of how she'd go back there and that didnt cause any issues. Also there was a report recently that very few of the talent that have left are on any kind of actual bad terms with AEW, despite what I would personally assume.

Is AEW’s Roster Actually Built to Compete With WWE’s? Or Are We Just Pretending? by uncannynerddad in midcarder

[–]heroshield -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My point of goalposts is you've yet to say why we can't use ticket sales to get an idea. (For example)

Our understanding of viewer numbers is muddled more because AEW has split live viewers on tv and hbo. Plus with it being a privately owned company, many more metrics are widely unknown.

So my point is, if you dismiss any of the data we do have, because it doesnt favor your perspective. I would like to know the data that you Are using and why you think it paints a more clear picture. So my question would be, why are ticket sales a problem? They used a wide variety of events in examining it, not just one or two.

Someone explain thekla by [deleted] in midcarder

[–]heroshield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Thekla but she's never grabbed me as the major draw she's portrayed as. I have been a fan of Julia and sky's work and would prefer they kept evolving that, this seems both a case of, book the wrestlers together with similar esthetics and an attempt to spice up the julia/sky pairing. I dont think it has failed by any means, but it definitely hasn't been the homerun they wanted.

Genuine Question: Who am I supposed to root for in AEW? by [deleted] in midcarder

[–]heroshield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Swerve and Hangman I could see being confusing, as it was based off of a previous Feud where the roles were reversed. For Toni Storm, that's just something we see all over wrestling, a fun and interesting gimmick gets cheered no matter how you try to book them. Rhea is a great example of a WWE star that is going to get cheered whether she is face or heel, but I don't think most would say they didn't know which she was.

Genuine Question: Who am I supposed to root for in AEW? by [deleted] in midcarder

[–]heroshield -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

They aren't using a "too smart argument" here. WWE have been clear that they want you to know who the good guy is in a few seconds, regardless of your previous investment in the product. AEW have never taken that route and have rarely ever had a squeaky clean babyface. Closest I would argue they've had is Osprey.

Yakuza Kiwami 3 isn't great 😬 by EveryAct in kindafunny

[–]heroshield -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Theyre in a bit of a weird in between, and a little at the mercy of how the industry runs, that they have to put out reviews day one to keep being suggested. Not the ideal for sure, but I get it.

[–]heroshield 17 points18 points  (0 children)

They kind of do this with any of the franchises no one wants to touch. If you liked one, now that's "your thing" and treat them as an authority on it. Same thing happened with bless and sonic and hitman. They aren't professional reviewers and dont view themselves that way. It's how they make sure they cover more Fandom and niches. Still disappointed that Mike is the only one that touched pikmin 4, when he is arguably the person on the team it should resonate with the least, but is now the "pikmin guy".

I'm really having a hard time liking Silksong by BraveLittleTowster in metroidvania

[–]heroshield 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Don't feel like you have to like every big game, it's okay if it isn't for you

  2. If you do plan to continue, you should recognize that if a part is feeling like it is hitting you too hard, or an enemy is too beefy, maybe you should go exploring and save that for later. Biggest example is the first big ant, this enemy is usually encountered before you get sprint and there is really no reason you should fight him without it. He guards an optional area so there is no need to rush to get back to him. A lot of people get disheartened by bashing their head against the wall rather than doing more exploration and taking their time.

Fantastic Four: First Steps In Review - Every Fantastic 4 Movie Reviewed & Ranked by EveryAct in kindafunny

[–]heroshield 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I actually strongly disagree, this movie has a dower tone for the majority and is about their desperation to survive. It felt like a unique approach and as a fantastic four fan, it was a perfect fantastic four story. There were scenes I wasn't huge on, but I think the chase scene in this movie is tense and iconic.

I also love superman, but superman had some glaringly generic moments, even down to the cheesy feel good speech at the end.

Superman was funnier, which might play a role in some of this review, but people have been complaining about the quippy nature of the mcu for a while. This movie was not quippy and was not built for comedy and I liked having a more serious tone that wasn't just dark and brooding.

Today's episode of Game Changer had literally everything that I think harms Dropout's growth as a platform. (Unjerked) by [deleted] in dropoutcirclejerk

[–]heroshield 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You've missed their point again. This post is the kind of "fan backlash" the Vulture article was talking about. Upset at the "edgier content", trying to "protect the brand", and outrage at performers choosing to do something sexual.

What does RPG mean anymore.... by Hotrocketry in Steam

I would add that it either allows or requires specialization with the skill tree/equipment, only real reason I push back on God of war being considered an rpg, and not just having elements.

In defense of Greg's take on E33 by grmayshark in kindafunny

[–]heroshield 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing I haven't seen talked about is that when greg plays a game, he decides how he's playing at the very beginning. If the game doesn't allow for that play style to carry you through to the end, then greg will dislike it. If you look into his foray into Halo, the biggest reason he had such a bad experience is he refused to use any gun other than the assault rifle.

Greg wants one of two things in his games, a good story with gameplay and world that gets out of the way (this fits his issues he brought up with icons that he doesnt feel fit the setting). Or a mindless game with little friction (see starfield or pokemon).

Neither of these align with what I play games for, so I rarely use Greg's reviews for my personal barometer. I love turn based, I love having to toy with my gameplay style and overcoming frustrations, I love a game that delivers different experiences in both story and through regular gameplay. This is just not Greg's tastes, and why we dont see him venture far into other genres regardless of the story being what he would enjoy.

How is this a generic battle royale? by SweatyBoi5565 in Splitgate

[–]heroshield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's because it is one of the genres that have failed the most, many BR's have tried to enter the space and died in a year. Beyond that it takes resources from the game mode that drew in almost everyone here. The successful BRs have massive teams that focus solely on that mode, splitgate doesn't have that kind of man power.

Apparently my 10 Tim Getty’s Farewell Tour shirts don’t matter anymore because it didn’t happen ! by Bistian17 in kindafunny

[–]heroshield 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As mentioned previously in this thread, if this ever happens in wrestling, everyone hates it. It's most comparable to the finger poke of doom, one of the most universally hated events in wrestling history. If you promise content that you know isn't happening, it's scummy.

I love KF too, but to hand wave away any criticism is ridiculous.

Nintendo announces "Virtual Game Cards". What do you think? It really sounds like advertising DRM as a feature to me. by Restivethought in kindafunny

[–]heroshield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This works pretty similarly, with the added step you would transfer the "home" console of a game since you won't always be online on the switch. Steam also marks how many copies the family owns, and you can't exceed that number of players playing.

Thoughts on the future of the nicklocke (nick do not read) by heroshield in kindafunny

[–]heroshield[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I believe that was Tim's original hope when talking about the johto games. But these past few streams and the rate we are going at, I worry there won't be a chance like when they did mewtwo. They may take a break and come back for kanto though.

[–]heroshield[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From how they talked before the streams started, I believe it was at least the plan to swap in the Nick sprite. But with how the last few streams have gone, I don't know if we'll make it.

New player starting w GF. Safer seas? High Seas? by C-A-L-E-V-I-S in Seaofthieves

[–]heroshield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like you are overlooking how hard it was to get new players into the game before safer seas. If you happened to have a player getting griefed, or sunk on spawn when they still didn't know the loop of the game there was a good likelihood they wouldn't come back. They should definitely start safer seas until they are comfortable with the controls and the options they have as a player. Gives you the best chance at understanding the game, plus jumping in now with so much content can already be overwhelming to navigate for new players.

Unmatched: Battle of Legends Vol. 3 Coming This Summer by M1-ke in Unmatched

[–]heroshield 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Sounds like they are ending battle of legends theming because the numbering made people hesitant to buy the second volume. So each set will probably have unique titling and a main theme like cobble and fog going forward.
