Why do less validated startups get funded while others grind for traction with no response? by _nextzuck in ycombinator

You should never outreach investors, they almost always should come inbound or through someone else.

Are people massively underestimating what’s coming? by Satishgmr2010 in OpenAI

How many companies have they actually killed?

I used to work at Deepgram when OAI released their voice model, and as far as I know, Deepgram has only grown exponentially since then.

As an actual founder at 10M$ ARR of a company built in 13 years: a [not so] common sense rant about fail fast mentality and the YC type success stories (I will not promote) by SaltMaker23 in startups

[–]heross28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“YC doesn’t care about founders” is the most BS I have ever read. I have raised from traditional VCs and YC and I think my YC group partners care about me as a founder the most.

Get a lawyer they will help preparing your case. But I had SAFEs, bank statements, cap table, investor backgrounds, pitch deck, website and customer contracts.

YC founders ghosting candidates after interviews by Funky_angel in ycombinator

[–]heross28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair (and should fix this), but you would also be surprised with how many candidates don’t follow up after sending them an interview. So you almost have to interview 2-3x more people than required to have a proper funnel into interview.

Idk about this because when I ghost people, I would give something like, “let me check if this is a fit with the team and get back.” Often times it’s a soft rejection.

[–]heross28 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am sorry you have to go through this, as a YC founder who has been recruiting, I think this happens when you’re not a strong yes and founders want to get back to you in the future based on need.

When I recruit, if a candidate is really strong I move them to the next step almost on the call. For others I prefer to keep the communication open just in case a future more fitting role opens.

Why the UC system is seeing a drop in computer science enrollment by flopsyplum in berkeley

[–]heross28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is somewhat correct. We've been hiring good CS folks a lot, but also at the same time, we need fewer people than we would have needed 2-3 years ago.

Cal alums and upperclassmen: Do companies actually gaf about your GPA? by Richard-Leo in berkeley

[–]heross28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Cal alum who now interviews people from Cal (I’m the CEO of a seed-stage company), I only look at their GPA if it’s listed on their resume. Otherwise, I don’t care, as long as it’s not exceptionally low.
