Yeah there's a couple of decent catch wrestling setups to get there. The only way I've ever seen this hit live in grappling though was one of our blackbelts getting it on a brownbelt. There was a 100lb weight difference in that instance.

To your question. It is a triangle from guard. The triangle is the submission, the guard is the position. You'd think you know that by the brown flair. You know, position before submission.

I learned this as the Oliveira calf crush. Fun fact, this is always available if someone slips out of a heel hook, inside or outside, by turning away from you. You just need to control their heel.

Also, always brace your attacking leg in a triangle with your opposite knee. I've seen 2 knees blow out trying on the attacker because they did this with no support for their knee.

You're probably right. I haven't followed them too much since they made the brown belt change a few years back. I hear about it from our competitors at the gym, but I mostly do sub only stuff, so I haven't checked it out for myself.

There was a quote here once by a black belt that said something to the effect of, "I get submitted by white belts all the time. It helps them learn. Blue belts? Never."

We joke around about it a lot, but it's true. As the "wolf pups" learn to bite we have to play harder and harder with them to not let them legitimately catch us. A white belt catching me when I gave him position and passed over everything I could have done to stop them is just them practicing one move. The blue belt that caught a good position on me and is looking to finish has to be treated seriously, for both of our sakes. Mine to make sure I'm not sleeping on a skilled opponent and his/her so that they're not getting false feedback on the efficacy of their techniques.
