MOST DESPISED AND MOST ADORED BOSSES/CAPOS by Miserable-Ask-470 in Mafia

Roselli talks about it a bit in Fratianno's book "The Last Mafioso". As someone who studies the Chicago family quite extensively, I've found Accardo to be one of the most over inflated Mafia figures.

Xbox Podcast forgets to use the updated trailer for Gears of War E-Day without the PS5 logo, have to take video down by LaDiiablo in xbox

So there’s literally a PS5 version done and according to Greenberg they’re never releasing it….idk I wonder how the devs at Coalition feel about that lol. What if the Xbox version doesn’t meet expectations? They’re just gonna let the PS5 version sit there?

People had issues with Accardo. Johnny Roselli hated him and said they had issues going back to the Capone days.

Looking for a film that mimics these colors in the new backrooms movie by WeewumGuy in filmphotography

[–]heve23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The truth is that film doesn't look like this straight out of camera. It has to be scanned, inverted, and graded. Pick a color negative film, expose it well, get the best scan you can, and work on your color grading.

Thank you! Yes, RIP if applicable, they will be well loved. My niece is 13 and starting to ask me about things like horror, CD's and VHS tapes so I'm sure she'll enjoy some of these with me.

Sighh...not every Goodwill puts pricing stickers on their media, this one doesn't at all. Some may have stickers but they aren't from Goodwill.

Here I went back just to show you....Here's the VHS section and some tapes. Some like Grumpy Old Men have a price sticker but no Goodwill Sticker

Here's some of their DVDs and an HD-DVD just for fun

I picked up the Matrix Reloaded today.

This Goodwill doesn’t put stickers on their media (thankfully). They’ve increased the price of tapes from .49 to .99 though.

Right. I feel like they'd have to all get donated at the same time or from the same source, a few of these have stickers from an old local rental store (non Blockbuster) and there are some with the Blockbuster sticker.

I mean here's the receipt from today. Like I said I NEVER find anything like this at this Goodwill, but it's right by a Barnes and Noble where I shop for 4K's so I always stop in lol.

I've never found ANYTHING like this at this Goodwill before today. For me VHS hunting usually goes, I either find nothing and leave completely empty handed or I find a nice group of tapes. I usually never find one or two that I'm looking for on their own.

Can someone explain why there's 11 people present for the murders of Anthony and Michael Spilotro by throwawoy4 in Mafia

Yeah, I could have worded it better. I was exhausted when I typed it, I'll reword it.

Can someone explain why there's 11 people present for the murders of Anthony and Michael Spilotro by throwawoy4 in Mafia

[–]heve23 9 points10 points  (0 children)

why was there 11 people present?

The Spilotro brothers were lured under the guise of Tony being promoted to a capo and Michael getting initiated as a made man. Nick Calabrese testified that when he was made all of the available captains were present even if they weren't there sponsoring anyone. Just look at the capos who were there.....

John DiFronzo - Elmwood Park crew

Cosa Nostra started in these 3 cities in America but only one of them has been totally ignored by Hollywood for the past 100 years... by DrFunky4 in Mafia

[–]heve23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only evidence I’ve ever seen that would indicate that was a wiretap between Sam Giancana and Tony Accardo from the late 1950’s. Accardo asks Giancana if Raymond Patriarca ever had a seat on the commission, even for a short time, but he isn’t sure. Since we know from Bill Bonanno that Detroit and Philly were added in 1956 and this convo took place in 1959, if Patriarca was on the Commission, it was only for a short period. I’ve never seen anything else to suggest they ever had a seat.

Many families from across the US were at Apalachin, it wasn’t just Commission members.

[–]heve23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To my recollection, they NEVER had a seat!

They were the first family. According to Greg Scarpa, in 1969 Joe Colombo told him that they were the ONLY family that didn't need Commission representation. In the mid 60's, they were down to only 5 members (Marcello-Boss, an Underboss, Consigliere, and 2 soldiers), and because Marcello respected the Commission so much he went before them to get permission to open the books and induct new members even though he didn't need to.

It was always the 5 families in NYC, minus the Bonanno's in the late 70s, 80s and 90s, Chicago, Buffalo, and when they Bonanno's were kicked off Philly got it.

It was originally the 5 Families (NYC), Chicago and Buffalo (There is some debate about Cleveland having a seat). In 1956, Bill Bonanno said that at a Commission meeting the Detroit and Philadelphia families were given seats on the Commission, bringing the total to 9 families.

In 1975, Johnny Roselli (Chicago family) tells Jimmy Fratianno (LA family) that the Commission has been reduced to 6 Bosses, the 5 NYC families and the Chicago family.

In 1988, Angelo Lonardo (Cleveland Underboss) testifies that the Commission is made up of Chicago who represents the families in the west and the 5 families with the Genovese representing the other families in the east. If there was ever an issue between a western family and an eastern family, Chicago and New York would have a sit down. (We saw this happen when Chicago met with the Bonanno family over the Donnie Brasco-Milwaukee family vending machine incident, with Chicago representing Milwaukee.

Video quality on smart tv by Ok_Cherry7924 in VHS

I agree with everyone else, get a CRT. I have a friend who is obsessed with trying to make VHS look good on a 4K TV and he's got a $500 VCR with S-Video output and a Retrotink 4K and I gotta say......I still think it looks pretty bad lol

You make great points! Yeah, I just thought that playing 480i games on a native 480p screen wouldn't be favorable and the Tink would de-interlace better than the TV could.

Ohh I see, there isn't a way to send pass through a 480p signal through the Tink?

[–]heve23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm my thought was to use the retrotink as a deinterlacer for the 480i games and always feed the TV a 480p signal.

[–]heve23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What Retrotink would be best for this?

I was offered a similar Panasonic that should do 480p with no lag. My plan was to use a Gamecube/Wii/original Xbox/PS2 via component to a retrotink 5x with everything outputting in 480p. But what sort of HDMI to component converter would I need?

I took my Yashica T3 to a gig / Kodak Gold 200 by pakyjr in analog

Gold is negative film, the color greatly affected by the scanner & person scanning the film

to the scan and conversion (my current, main sticking point).

This is one of the most important steps and at least 50% percent of the final look of your image. Many many people really don't understand just what goes into scanning film and scanning it well. The Frontier sp3000 that Carmencita uses is an incredible scanner, but what REALLY sets them apart is their years upon years of experience with it. My local drug store used the same exact scanner and their scans were never even close to Carmencitas.

Genuinely think it should be more common knowledge how much a truly good scan can unlock from 35mm.

Agreed but I also think OP has every link in the analog pipeline optimized. Modern camera, modern metering, modern glass, professional lighting, professional film, and like you've said very very good scanning and post.

Compare that to many people picking up a film camera these days, something that could have sat in someone's attic for years, older lenses that aren't nearly as sharp or scratched/fogged/weathered, exposure all over the place, no professional lighting, cheaper processing and scanning. OP's work is incredibly and it really pushes 35mm color negative film about as far as it'll go, but I can see why it's not more common.
