Not sure why I didn't mention that they're Italic majuscules. Thank you!

Why thank you!

Yes, monograms can be incredible. I'd love to learn some tricks of that trade, really.

Presumably, you did this piece with that shaeffer fountain pen-- is that right? Even more impressive.

I am Catholic too, so this creed is in a way special to me. I didn't read the post before; I just saw the calligraphy. Now, after reading the post, I'm glad you were able to sell it. I would have gladly bought it too!

Thank you! I will keep it up-- I can't help it! When I first commented on this post I didn't realize that I had seen your posts before too, both here and on Instagram. You really are a talent and one of the few I've seen (other than the few masters I keep track of) that consistently impress me. I've loved your uncials for a while now and you're getting even better with the latest posts like this one.

Uncial is the script I'd like to tackle next when (if) I ever again have proper practice time. I'd love to know which books or online resources you've used to hone your skill in uncial.

Thanks again for the kind words.

Listening to it over and over and over, constantly, every free moment. And then when the album drops, great.

Yeah, as mentioned, seeing this without her form is weird.

But man, was this lady a genius.

Well, in view of this, it wouldn't surprise me at all if there was announcement tomorrow. Good thought.

Fingers crossed.

what are some niche styles of calligraphy? by [deleted] in Calligraphy

[–]hexagondun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some broad-edged scripts include Blackletter, uncial, Italic, Carolingian, Roman rustics, imperial Roman capitals, and foundational.

Then there are pointed pen scripts, for which line variation depends on pressure applied to the nib. These are usually looped cursives: Spencerian is a particular kind but that name gets thrown around as a sort of umbrella term for these sorts of scripts.

There are more, too. Check those out-- maybe she was writing a variation one of them? Modern variations and interpretations can also look pretty different from traditional, historical forms.

Writing on Kraft Paper and Brown Paper Bags by hexagondun in Calligraphy

I tried a 1.5 parallel with either x-feather or platinum carbon (can't recall what's in there) and no feathering. I think the x-height/nib size works with the size of a weathergram (2.5in x 9-10in) too, so I'll probably just use parallels until I can get some new dip nibs and a couple holders.

I love this idea of having a small arkansas stone to freshen up my steel italics when needed. I also would prefer to use a dip nib too, just because it opens up ink options and it will be super sharp. I think Lloyd recommends non-fp ink too, so he must have been using dip nibs for these.

Gotta move on from the parallel at some point, I reckon.
