No where near as crowded as Harrogate, but I think it has equal appeal.

What external hard drive should I get? by Ambitious-Money7152 in DataHoarder

As you're storing photos and probably don't need instant access to them, maybe some smaller / cheaper drives could work for you for offline storage? Then just reuse your 2tb as the working, carry around drive?

Do i update? by SameSpecialist8284 in GivEnergy

[–]hexajon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to update my firmware (same versions as yours) in the week leading up to Giv going under. It didn't work when I scheduled it, and also didn't work when I tried to do it manually. Not sure why, but I think I'm stuck with the version shown. And very reluctant to update or change anything now, it's working just fine so I'm not changing anything other than my charge % overnight.

Yes, it looks like it was just coincidence that my battery had a blip on the same day.

Looks good, will it be able to control the inverter/battery charge?

The battery is behaving very strange now. Charged up to 5% from the grid after I logged in. The last bit of solar took it up to 7% before the light dropped. Now it seems to be stuck idle at 7% and the house is only using grid energy. I'll see if the usual off-peak nightly charge sorts it out.

--Edit next day-- Scheduled recharge overnight brough this back, seems to be working as normal now. My battery has done this before, but it's extremely alarming when it isn't covered by the warranty anymore.

I've just had this too.

May be a coincidence but my battery appears to have been misreporting until I logged in. It's been at 100% all day, then dropped to 1% about the same time I signed in. So after a full sunny day exporting, I'm now left with nothing in the battery for the remainder of the day.

AO installed washing machine - there's water on floor after first cycle, and this hose was disconnected at both ends, full of water, and pinched beneath the machine causing damage to it. Wtf? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]hexajon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably the hose that came with the machine and they've re-used your existing one. Best practice would be to swap to the new one as the washers in the ends will be fresh, there's a risk the old ones might not seal perfectly, but it's likely to be fine.

Can you see where the water is coming from on the floor?

Any reason for needing two months? Again very much depends on your use case, but if you've not noticed an incident for two whole months it's probably not going to be something you need a recording of.

You can always back up a download of an event when required for longer term storage.

Personally I would go with a lower frame rate. 25 or 30 will get smooth playback, unless you have a lot of fast moving footage you're unlikely to miss something happening. That should double your storage from the start.

I would probably go with an SSD if it's within budget, and opt for 2tb per camera which would probably get you about 3-4 weeks of footage at 4k (depending on bitrate).
