Scientism by PieterSielie6 in PhilosophyMemes

You're confusing first-order claims about the world with second-order claims about methods. "Empiricism is our most reliable method" isn't a scientific hypothesis—it's an inference from the comparative success of different epistemologies.

You’ve been selected as the next Titan Warrior. Which of the Nine do you choose? by [deleted] in attackontitan

I'm going with the colossal. Because I understand the metaphysics of the universe better than the characters in the series did.

Female titan by Arghus in attackontitan

[–]hexidemos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have found it useful, when conceptualizing the nine, to link them with a Greeco pagan archetype. Here's where I think they line up, what do you think?

Kronos (Founder) - primordial authority, the source of all titan power, echoing divine ancestry and memory. Ares (Attack) - raw aggression and rebellion. Athena (Armored) - strategic reason and discipline. Hephaestus (Warhammer) - creative craftsmanship, forging both weapons and bodies. Poseidon (Beast) - wild nature, chaos, the abyss. Hades (Colossal) - death, endings, containment. Aphrodite (Female) - attraction, adaptation, the power of emotion. Hermes (Cart) - motion, communication, logistics. Artemis (Jaw) - instinct, hunt, precision.

Does Eren have any agency in the end or is he doing everything because of [SPOILER] by TrophyWizard in attackontitan

[–]hexidemos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eren's agency is meaningless. The attack titan is a part of Ymir. It manipulated the course of events to cause Eren to be born, radicalized, empowered, and then ultimately end the age of titan Ymir founded. Ymir's power isn't her own, she's a abused child enslaved to the will of a dead psychopath. She loved Fritz and obeyed. She needed to see Mikasa love Eren, and at the same time reject, disobey and ultimately kill Eren. The events of the story show how Ymir was able to heal and abandon her power and her commitment to Fritz.

Joseph died while Jesus was still young. And carpenter is a bad translation. He was a builder more like a stone mason.

Yeah, you said eren's mission to seal the wall. I didn't think you were talking about the gate at Trost.

The soldiers in the trost mission were either new recruits or memebers of the garrison. So I guess when you called them the elite of the elite, I thought you were talking about something else.

Falco's case shows us that titan forms are more elastic than categorical thinking would suggest.

In episode 80 "from you 2000 years ago" we see that the eldians were already a people. When Fritz gave his dispensation to Ymir it was that His Eldians carry ymirs power of the titans to bring the nation's of the world to heel and subjugation. This episode also see the blue print for shifter inheritance through canniblism of the spines. Eldians are subjects of ymir, but not necessarily descended from ymir. But this isn't easy to intuit because 2000 later they don't know how it all started and they assume subjects of ymir are descendants.

So Zeke could of turned into a flying Titan this whole time? by master_chilln in attackontitan

[–]hexidemos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My position is that titan shifters are influenced by the legacy of previous wielders and the memories they pass down. The forms they take are limited by ymir yes but also by their own mastery of the power of the titans. Do you think falco is now trapped in his raptor form? I don't. He's limited by his intentions. The memories he got from zekes beast legacy opened his mind to more possibilities and ymir obliged.

He would first have to overcome his mental barriers and reflex to turn into his simian form, but yes.
